Job Description

Insight Global's client is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to develop, deploy, and optimize forecasting solutions supporting Wind, Solar, and Load forecasting, with a primary focus on Wind generation forecasting. This hands-on role combines machine learning, time-series forecasting, renewable energy analytics, meteorology, and production support.

The ideal candidate will independently build and enhance forecasting models from data exploration and feature engineering through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. A key responsibility is evaluating and optimizing weather and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) providers to improve forecast accuracy, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong Python experience with data science and machine learning libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, etc.).
  • Experience developing, validating, and deploying forecasting, predictive, or time-series models. • Expertise in feature engineering, regression, ensemble methods, gradient boosting, model validation, and backtesting.
  • Experience integrating weather APIs, NWP forecasts, SCADA/telemetry data, databases, and external data sources.
  • Strong SQL and data analysis skills (postgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience deploying solutions into AWS.
  • Knowledge of software development best practices, including Git, testing, and version control.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

  • Experience with utility-scale wind, solar, or load forecasting.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy operations, SCADA systems, and weather-to-power modeling.
  • Experience working with multiple weather and NWP providers.
  • Understanding of energy markets, utility operations, trading, or ISO/RTO environments.
  • Experience with probabilistic forecasting and uncertainty modeling.
  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists.
