Job description

About this role

Excellent creative work can help extraordinary organizations raise more and serve more. Unseen is looking for a Marketing Director who knows what great looks like, can explain why it works, and can bring together the people who make it happen.

You will own Unseen's brand, voice, marketing strategy, and creative standard. You will lead an outside agency through a brand rebuild, turn that work into a focused annual marketing plan, and direct major projects for selected Unseen partners.

You will turn complex information into compelling ideas that capture attention, build belief, and motivate action. You will set creative direction and hold teams accountable for quality.

Creating amazing products and campaigns is the floor. Activating people to invest in anti trafficking work is the job.

About Unseen

Unseen accelerates the fight against human trafficking and its root causes. We equip anti-trafficking organizations around the world with marketing, fundraising, and storytelling tools, and we deliver strategic grants that fund their most critical projects.

Since 2011, Unseen has worked with 94 partner organizations in 66 countries. Those partners have raised more than $119 million and served more than 1.3 million people.

We are entering a new chapter and investing in the leadership and creative work to support it.

The opportunity

This is a role for someone whose strength is creative judgment and leadership. You can recognize an exceptional idea, write a clear brief, give specific feedback, and push work further. You know how to recruit talented people and hold them to a high standard.

You will have direct access to Unseen's leadership, room to challenge assumptions, and the opportunity to shape work with lasting consequences. We want someone who can push back on the CEO's preferences, support their recommendations, and earn trust through their decisions.

You will lead through strategy, direction, and accountability, not by personally producing every asset. A social media specialist will activate the social strategy, and a production manager and production team will manage the execution of creative projects. You will guide the standard of work, help identify outside talent, and collaborate with the people responsible for daily delivery.

What you will lead

Brand and voice. Serve as the primary day-to-day client for an outside brand agency, guide the rebuild, and establish standards the team can consistently apply.

Marketing strategy. Build and execute an annual plan with clear audiences, priorities, budgets, responsibilities, and measures of success. Define how marketing builds awareness and trust, motivates engagement, and supports measurable growth.

Visibility and credibility. Build Unseen's visibility and credibility among priority donors and businesses, activating established relationships and advocates in selected markets.

Fundraising communications. Set the strategy and creative direction for campaigns, stories, and materials that support philanthropic strategy, major gifts, Guardian Business expansion, and a major capital initiative.

Partner projects. Lead strategic and creative oversight for substantial marketing and storytelling assignments for selected Unseen partners, with scope and delivery commitments established through the annual plan.

Creative talent. Identify, evaluate, recruit, and brief excellent agencies, freelancers, and other creative specialists.

Quality and accountability. Set creative standards, provide decisive feedback, and remain accountable for the quality and strategic effectiveness of work delivered by staff, production teams, agencies, and contractors without directly managing every task.

Practical AI adoption. Champion thoughtful AI use in research, creative development, workflows, and production, while protecting accuracy, privacy, and storytelling integrity.

Our philanthropic leadership owns fundraising strategy, donor relationships, and asks. Our Guardian Business lead owns that program's expansion. You will be their marketing partner, responsible for work that helps them succeed.

What you bring

  • Exceptional creative judgment across storytelling, copy, design, photography, video, and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to turn complex information into persuasive creative concepts using audience psychology, narrative tension, message hierarchy, and clear calls to action.
  • A track record of developing campaigns that produce measurable results, including fundraising outcomes, with an honest account of your strategy, decisions, contribution, and results.
  • Experience selecting, briefing, directing, and evaluating outside agencies and creative specialists, including providing clear feedback and knowing when to change course.
  • The ability to recruit strong creative talent beyond your existing contacts.
  • Clear, constructive leadership that makes other people's work better.
  • Strong execution skills, including setting priorities, managing budgets, and delivering on commitments through teams.
  • Resourcefulness within a limited budget, with the judgment to surface tradeoffs early and recommend solutions.
  • Practical fluency with AI tools and the ability to lead adoption collaboratively.
  • Respect for ethical, survivor-centered storytelling that protects dignity, informed consent, privacy, and personal agency.

An established network of creative professionals, agencies, media contacts, or business partners is a plus. Experience in anti-trafficking work is welcome but not required.

What success looks like

In your first year, you will:

  • Launch Unseen's brand rebuild and establish a consistent voice and creative standard.
  • Build and execute a focused annual marketing plan with defined audiences, engagement goals, and performance measures.
  • Provide creative direction and quality oversight for priority campaigns and partner projects delivered by the responsible teams against agreed goals, schedules, and budgets.
  • Equip our fundraising and Guardian Business teams with compelling, useful materials and evaluate how those materials support engagement and growth.
  • Build a dependable bench of creative specialists and strong working relationships with production leadership.
  • Improve how we evaluate creative quality, audience response, campaign performance, and team delivery.

We will establish specific milestones together based on organizational priorities and available resources.

Working at Unseen

You will report to the COO and work closely with the CEO on brand direction and creative standards. Within approved organizational priorities and brand strategy, you will lead creative recommendations and day-to-day marketing decisions.

Our team works remotely across multiple locations. This role requires regular overlap with Central Time business hours and travel for selected events. Two team meetups per year are encouraged.

The salary range is $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience and demonstrated capabilities.

You will have flexibility, meaningful creative responsibility, access to global partners and powerful stories of hope, and the opportunity to help organizations change lives for generations.

How to apply

Please submit your resume or professional background, plus:

1. Two examples of campaigns or major creative projects you led. Include the objective, your role, the team or agency involved, approximate budget, and results.

At least one should demonstrate fundraising impact.

2. A short note explaining why this opportunity interests you and what you would bring to Unseen.

3. An intro video highlighting who you are and what makes you the best fit to join this team.

Links, existing case studies, and concise summaries are welcome. You may anonymize confidential information. We are interested in the quality of your judgment and contribution, not the polish of your application.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
