This is a hands-on, in-person role in a small print shop, combining computer-based design and file preparation with operating digital printing and finishing equipment, helping customers, and preparing completed orders. The balance of responsibilities varies day-to-day with the shop’s workload.

The ideal candidate for a position with our company will be highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign and Illustrator. Production experience in digital printing and finishing is highly desired, but we are willing to train the right person.

  • Relevant education or equivalent professional experience in graphic design, prepress, and/or print production.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Great attention to detail and able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A passion for print - both making the files and making the finished products.

Daily Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • General typesetting and page layout of customer projects from business cards to banners.
  • Preparing digital files, checking fonts, links, and colors, creating bleeds, crops, imposing art and exporting as PDF files.
  • Communicating courteously with clients to assist them with the creation of their jobs.
  • Reviewing job specifications from work orders and ensuring that client files are accurate.
  • All digital print, finishing, and bindery duties, such as cutting, folding, stapling, padding, etc.
  • Quality checks during and after production to ensure the finished product always exceeds customer expectations.
  • Routine equipment cleaning and basic troubleshooting.
  • Inventory management.
  • Keeping an organized digital file system and archive of completed projects.
  • General shop cleaning and organization.

Work environment and physical responsibilities

This position combines computer-based work with hands-on production throughout the shop. Typical activities include:

  • Spending portions of the day standing and moving between workstations and equipment.
  • Bending and reaching to load paper, retrieve supplies, and package completed orders.
  • Handling paper, operating printing and finishing equipment, and assembling finished products.
  • Lifting and moving boxes of paper, supplies, and completed orders weighing up to 30 pounds, using carts or assistance as appropriate.
  • Working around operating printing and finishing equipment and following equipment safety procedures.

*We're a small shop, and we value reliability, clear communication, careful work, and a willingness to help wherever needed. If you feel you have what it takes to be a part of our team, please submit your resume, cover letter, and some relevant work samples and/or a link to your portfolio.
