About this role
Position Title: Controller, Healthcare
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Brooklyn, NY (onsite, five days a week)
Salary Range: $125,000 to $140,000, plus annual bonus
WHY JOIN US
Maximize Health is a private equity-backed healthcare company serving senior care facilities. As our Controller, you will work directly with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and own the day-to-day accounting: the close, the reconciliations and the controls. This is a high-visibility seat in a growing company, with direct exposure to leadership and investors, and a chance to build processes the business will run on for years.
For someone who delivers, there is room to grow into a senior finance leadership role as the company grows.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Maximize Health operates under an MSO-PC (management services organization and professional corporation) structure. The Controller runs day-to-day accounting across the management company and its affiliated professional corporations.
We are looking for a hands-on accountant with healthcare revenue cycle experience, ideally from an RCM company, MSO or healthcare provider, or from advising healthcare clients at a bank, accounting firm or consulting firm. The ideal candidate has strong QuickBooks skills, learns quickly and takes ownership of the numbers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Close
- Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processing in QuickBooks
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual close, including bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for the CFO’s review and for reporting to leadership and investors
Multi-Entity (MSO-PC)
- Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, management fees and shared cost allocations under the management services agreement (MSA)
- Prepare entity-level and consolidated financial statements, and tie them monthly across every entity
- Support the financial separation and documentation the MSO-PC structure requires, including written intercompany agreements
Revenue & Cash
- Partner with billing to reconcile insurance payments, track AR aging, collections, denials and payer reimbursement, and record revenue accurately
- Monitor daily cash position and support cash flow forecasting
- Support budgeting and forecasting, including budget vs. actual and variance analysis
- Prepare provider, location and service line reporting to support profitability analysis
Controls & Team
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors and tax preparers, and prepare audit and tax schedules
- Work with bookkeeping and billing staff to keep records accurate and on time
- Improve accounting systems, workflows and reporting as the organization grows
FIRST YEAR OUTCOMES
In the first twelve months, success looks like:
- The monthly close delivered on a published calendar, every month
- The books tying monthly across the management company and every affiliated professional corporation
- Facility-level profit and loss reporting produced as a matter of course
- Days to bill and aged receivables reduced against targets set with the CFO
- Every intercompany arrangement documented in writing
- Audit-ready financials and supporting schedules
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 4+ years of accounting experience, ideally at an RCM company, MSO or healthcare provider. Public accounting, consulting or banking experience with healthcare clients will also be considered
- Advanced QuickBooks experience
- Hands-on experience with healthcare insurance billing and revenue cycle (claims, payments, denials, payer reimbursement)
- Strong command of month-end close, accruals, reconciliations and GAAP financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills
- Sharp, organized and self-directed, and comfortable partnering with leadership
Preferred
- Experience at an RCM company or MSO
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA track
- Multi-entity accounting, intercompany reconciliations or consolidations
- Experience with healthcare clients, physician practices or private equity-backed companies
BENEFITS
Competitive salary, health insurance, retirement investment opportunity, paid time off and paid holidays.
