About this role

Senior Accountant (CPA)

Firm: Herrmann & Loll
Location: Beaver, Pennsylvania (on-site; hybrid may be considered case-by-case after 6 months and is not guaranteed; on-site required during tax season)
Type: Full-time, exempt
Reports to: Owner/CPA

Summary

Herrmann & Loll is a small, client-first public accounting firm serving closely-held businesses and families. We’re hiring a Senior Accountant (CPA) with 5+ years across tax, audit/assurance, and client accounting. You’ll own a client book, lead engagements, review staff work, and advise business owners.

This role includes a defined 18-month path to Partner, with potential equity ownership after Partner status is achieved.

What you’ll do

  • Tax (Business & Individual): Prepare/review 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1040; oversee K-1s, basis, depreciation, apportionment; manage extensions/estimates; handle IRS/PA/local notices.
  • Assurance & Engagements: Lead compilations and reviews; participate in select small audits/AUP; maintain high-quality workpapers and documentation.
  • Client Accounting & Advisory: Review monthly close/bookkeeping; reconcile bank/credit cards; oversee payroll and sales/use tax; identify issues and recommend improvements.
  • Quality & Review: Review staff work, coach junior team members, enforce checklists/SOPs; ensure deliverables are review-ready and on schedule.
  • Project & Client Management: Own timelines, budgets, WIP, billing, and collections for your book; keep status current; communicate proactively with clients.
  • Process Improvement: Standardize workpapers, automate repeat tasks, and elevate accuracy, speed, and client experience. Path to Partner (18 months)
  • Ownership potential: Upon achieving Partner status, equity ownership may be offered via a mutually agreed buy-in; specific terms (equity %, valuation, timeline) are set at that time and require firm approval. Equity can either be bought or earned over time - we’re flexible based upon your financial needs. Partner promotion and ownership are not guaranteed and depend on performance and firm needs.

What we’re looking for

  • Active CPA (PA license or reciprocal eligibility with PA in a reasonable timeframe).
  • 5+ years recent public accounting experience across tax and assurance (small or mid-size firm).
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks (QBO/Desktop) and Excel; strong TB/JE tie-outs and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to review staff work and communicate clear, constructive feedback.
  • Excellent client communication, organization, and follow-through.
  • PTIN by start date (or immediate eligibility to obtain).
  • Ability to work on-site in Beaver, PA; extended hours as deadlines approach, especially in tax season.
  • A desire to grow your career. We're looking for someone to grow into the role of running day to day operations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with tax software, and document portals.
  • PA/local tax familiarity (EIT/LST), multi-state exposure, and notice resolution.
  • Interest in mentoring and building scalable firm processes.

Compensation & benefits

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience (full-time, exempt).
  • Health insurance.
  • Two weeks (80 hours) paid vacation per year, accruing per biweekly pay cycle; no carryover to the next calendar year.
  • SIMPLE 401(k) with 3% employer match after one year of service (plan terms apply).
  • Flexible scheduling with case-by-case hybrid eligibility after 6 months; on-site required during tax season.
  • CPE/professional development support; collaborative, low-ego team.
