Position Summary
We are seeking a Network Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to design, operate, automate, and continuously improve highly reliable enterprise network services supporting Manufacturing Operations across large Gulf Coast refinery and chemical manufacturing complexes.
This role combines deep network engineering expertise with SRE principles to improve availability, operational resilience, observability, and recovery while reducing manual effort. The ideal candidate has advanced knowledge of routing protocols, particularly BGP, along with hands-on experience supporting SD-WAN, switching, wireless, and firewall technologies in complex, business-critical environments.
Automation, Python scripting, Ansible, observability, and API-based system integration are essential components of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, operate, and troubleshoot reliable network services supporting refinery and chemical manufacturing operations.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for routing protocols, with a strong emphasis on BGP.
- Support and optimize SD-WAN environments, preferably using Versa.
- Manage Cisco Catalyst switching and Cisco Wireless infrastructure.
- Operate and troubleshoot enterprise firewall platforms, preferably Fortinet.
- Develop scripts and automation using Python, Ansible, and related tools.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks, configuration changes, testing, validation, and remediation.
- Establish observability across network services through monitoring, telemetry, logging, alerting, and performance analysis.
- Integrate network platforms with monitoring, orchestration, IT service management, and other enterprise systems through APIs.
- Apply disciplined change-management and incident-response practices within complex, operationally critical manufacturing environments.
- Identify recurring issues and implement engineering solutions that improve reliability, scalability, recoverability, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, and continuous service improvement.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, automation standards, and support runbooks.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, application, and site-support teams to maintain reliable network services.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in enterprise network engineering and operations.
- Expert-level understanding of routing protocols, particularly BGP.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise switching and wireless technologies.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting enterprise firewall platforms.
- Experience with Python scripting, Ansible, or comparable automation technologies.
- Understanding of APIs and system integration concepts.
- Experience with network monitoring, telemetry, observability, and incident troubleshooting.
- Ability to operate effectively in complex, business-critical environments requiring disciplined change and incident management.
- Ability to participate in the required on-call rotation.
- Ability to work onsite in Spring, Texas, at least four days per week.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Versa SD-WAN.
- Experience with Cisco Catalyst switching.
- Experience supporting Cisco Wireless environments.
- Experience operating Fortinet firewalls.
- Experience supporting network services in refinery, chemical manufacturing, industrial, or other operationally critical environments.
- Familiarity with SRE practices, including service-level objectives, automation, observability, incident management, and continuous improvement.
- Experience integrating network platforms with enterprise monitoring, orchestration, or IT service management systems.
