About this role
The Experience
Monitoring Cloud is seeking engineers to architect, implement, deliver, and operate the telemetry agents and instrumentation libraries that power observability at Salesforce scale.
Monitoring Cloud is an integral part of the Salesforce Infrastructure, providing the insights every development team relies on to detect and remediate incidents and keep Salesforce products highly available for our customers. This cloud owns the entire telemetry stack, from the agents that emit, collect, and ship telemetry to the large-scale backends that store it and serve low-latency queries.
We support all the key pillars of telemetry (metrics, logs, traces, and events) at massive scale, built from a combination of open source and home-grown technologies architected from the ground up to run efficiently in the public cloud.
The Monitoring Agent team sits at the very front of that stack. We own every telemetry collection agent and instrumentation library at Salesforce: we instrument, collect, transform, and export logs, metrics, traces, and events across Kubernetes (EKS/GKE), GovCloud, and Agentforce/LLM services.
Our work spans OpenTelemetry Collector pipelines, eBPF-based edge instrumentation, an OpAMP fleet-management control plane, agent-side anomaly detection, and instrumentation libraries embedded in thousands of services. These agents run on millions of hosts, so efficiency, reliability, and safe rollout are first-order design constraints.
We are looking to add engineers with experience building and owning distributed services who can step up and own big chunks of this vision. You will be challenged to blend customer-centric principles, industry-changing innovation, and the reliable delivery of new technologies.
You will work directly with engineering, product, and design to build agents and instrumentation that development teams across Salesforce depend on every day.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- You proactively design, develop, and implement critical functionality, tackling features of increasing complexity with confidence.
- You are adaptable and eager to learn new technologies, solving ambiguous problems quickly to accelerate business impact.
- You take pride in your work, applying engineering best practices to build scalable, maintainable solutions.
- You are innovative, always looking for ways to improve services and are unafraid to propose new ideas.
- You care about operating what you build, treating agent footprint, host impact, and safe rollout across a large fleet as part of the design.
- You are comfortable presenting your team's work to peers, leadership, and broader engineering groups, whether in team meetings, leadership reviews, or Tech Talks.
- You write understandable, testable code with an eye toward maintainability.
You're Our Person If...
- B.S/M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent field with 8+ years of software development experience
- Experience building highly scalable, available, and real-time data management or data collection services
- Deep understanding and experience building services on the public cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
- Strong experience developing services/software in a Linux/UNIX environment using Go, Java, or Python
- Hands-on experience with containers and Kubernetes (EKS/GKE), including operating workloads such as DaemonSets or sidecars in production
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment focused on delivering production code at a regular cadence using Agile techniques, tools, and methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication that helps you collaborate effectively in distributed scrum teams
- Experience building and operating services while ensuring 99.99% reliability in production
Even Better If...
- Experience with OpenTelemetry (Collector, SDKs, or instrumentation) or comparable telemetry pipelines and agents
- Familiarity with observability signals and systems: metrics, logs, traces, and events, and platforms such as Prometheus, Splunk, Grafana, or similar
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), including client-server or agent/control-plane protocols (e.g. OpAMP)
- Experience with low-level or host-level instrumentation (eBPF, cAdvisor, kube-state-metrics)
- Expertise in Big Data and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino/Presto, Druid, or Airflow
- Experience with CI/CD technologies (such as Spinnaker), Docker, and Terraform
- Experience with Spring, gRPC, REST, and the HTTP protocol
You are a high-performing hybrid engineer who thrives in a "Get it Done" environment. You take ownership of complex problems, independently delivering high-quality features while continuously driving engineering excellence.
If you're someone who takes ownership, thrives on solving tough challenges, and enjoys driving impact, we'd love to hear from you!
