Job Description
As a Project Manager II within OpenGov's Government App Builder (GAB) team, you will manage SaaS implementation projects for public-sector clients deploying grants management and funding workflow solutions. You will work closely with government finance, grants, and budget stakeholders, cross-functional technical and implementation teams, and project sponsors to deliver on time, within scope, and within budget.
You will gain hands-on experience navigating government workflows, building stakeholder alignment across multiple departments, and enhancing delivery methodologies for increasingly complex government solutions.
Responsibilities
- Manage scopes, timelines, budgets, and deliverables for multiple government clients implementing OpenGov grants management and financial workflow solutions.
- Organize and deliver a portfolio of multiple projects, each spanning 4–9 months, with emphasis on government procurement and compliance timelines.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on day-to-day project matters, managing relationships across finance directors, grants officers, budget managers, and IT teams.
- Track and report on key delivery metrics including project status, budget health, compliance readiness, user enablement progress, and risks to go-live and adoption.
- Partner with technical implementation analysts and solution consultants to coordinate scope, requirements, UAT, training delivery, and go-live execution.
- Proactively identify and escalate project risks related to resource constraints, scope creep, stakeholder alignment, and timeline challenges.
- Conduct and coordinate user training and enablement, including developing training artifacts (decks, user guides, canned responses) tailored to government audiences.
- Support the sales process, SOW creation, and customer discovery to ensure realistic scoping and delivery.
- Occasionally travel to customer sites to conduct training, facilitate stakeholder meetings, and strengthen customer relationships.
- Help build and refine GAB's project delivery framework and templates (e.g., implementation checklists, communication cadences, UAT playbooks) to improve consistency and efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of project management or related experience in a SaaS environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with software implementation processes and project lifecycle management.
- Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Technical aptitude and proficiency with project management and CRM tools (e.g., Rocketlane).
- Strong initiative and ability to balance analytical detail work with big-picture strategic thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to a rapidly changing product environment and respond strategically to client needs.
Preferred
Experience managing public sector or government SaaS implementations.
Exposure to government finance, grants, budgeting, or compliance workflows.
Knowledge of government compliance frameworks (2 CFR 200, audit requirements, subrecipient monitoring, CDBG) or willingness to learn.
PMP or CAPM certification, or willingness to pursue within 12 months.
Experience with process improvement methodologies (Lean Six Sigma, Shiftology, etc.).
Proficiency with Gong, Rocketlane, Jira, Google Workspace, and Slack.
Comfort facilitating conversations with government stakeholders around scope, timelines, and deliverables.
Compensation
Chicago, IL: $82,000 - $92,000
On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.
The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
