This role serves as a senior escalation point for live productions and provides technical leadership across studios, production control rooms and associated broadcast and IP infrastructure within the Stamford Sports facility.
The Senior Broadcast Production Engineer partners with Production, Operations, Technical Management, IT, Security, vendors and other engineering teams to translate production requirements into reliable and supportable technical solutions. The position combines hands-on day-of-air support with systems engineering, project leadership, operational readiness and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex or high-impact issues affecting live and recorded productions.
- Lead advanced troubleshooting across video, audio, communications, replay, graphics, routing, monitoring, compute, storage and network-connected production systems.
- Provide senior day-of-air engineering coverage and coordinate technical response during production-impacting incidents.
- Lead technical projects from requirements definition and design through installation, integration, testing, commissioning and operational handoff.
- Develop system architecture, signal-flow diagrams, equipment specifications, implementation plans and acceptance criteria.
- Evaluate existing workflows and recommend improvements that increase reliability, scalability, security and operational efficiency.
- Lead maintenance windows, system upgrades, capacity expansions and technology refreshes while minimizing production disruption.
- Work with Network Engineering and IT teams to support IP media environments, including SMPTE ST 2110, multicast transport, synchronization and hybrid SDI/IP workflows.
- Coordinate technical work performed by system integrators, manufacturers and vendors; validate deliverables and oversee acceptance testing.
- Perform root-cause analysis following significant incidents and translate findings into corrective actions, documentation or system improvements.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, SOPs, as-built drawings, recovery procedures and technical support documentation.
- Mentor less-experienced engineers and provide technical training and knowledge sharing.
- Represent Production Engineering in cross-functional project, workflow and technology discussions.
- Support budgeting, equipment planning and technical lifecycle recommendations for assigned systems.
- Participate in rotating schedule and on-call coverage, including nights, weekends and holidays as required.
Basic Requirements
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in broadcast engineering, production engineering, media systems or a comparable live-production technology environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Communications or a related field, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting integrated broadcast production systems in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Experience leading system installations, upgrades, integration, testing or commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of video, audio, timing, synchronization, signal transport, monitoring and production control-room workflows.
- Strong understanding of IP networking and media-over-IP production technologies.
- Experience creating and maintaining system diagrams, technical specifications and operational documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical workstreams and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with SMPTE ST 2110, PTP, NMOS, AES67, Dante, NDI and hybrid SDI/IP production environments.
- Experience with redundant, highly available systems supporting 24/7 media operations.
- Familiarity with cloud, virtualized or software-defined production platforms.
- Experience with Sony, EVS, Evertz, Grass Valley, RTS, Calrec, Tektronix, Leader, Avid and Chyron systems.
- Experience with 1080p, HDR and UHD/4K workflows.
- Experience using AutoCAD, Visio, Lucidchart or similar tools for systems documentation.
- Familiarity with scripting, automation, monitoring or configuration-management tools.
- Experience managing vendor deliverables and formal system acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and improve team support practices.
