About this role
About Monster Energy
Forget about blending in. That's not our style. We're the risk takers, the trailblazers, the gamechangers.
We're not perfect and we don't pretend to be. We're raw, unfiltered, and a bit unconventional. Our drive is just like our athletes, unrivaled.
The power is in your hands to define what success looks like and where you want to take your career. It's not just about what we do, but about who we become along the way. We are much more than a brand here.
We are a way of life, a mindset. Join us.
A Day in the Life
At Monster Energy, we move fast, push limits, and never settle for status quo — and our IT team is no different. We're looking for a Project Manager to join our IT PMO team and be the driving force behind the websites and custom applications our Software Engineering team builds to keep our business unstoppable.
In this role, you'll lead software projects from kickoff through launch, working closely with engineers, designers, QA, and business stakeholders to keep work on track, on budget, and aligned with company goals. You'll know when a project calls for a structured waterfall plan and when it calls for Scrum — and you'll help shape and strengthen the agile practices our engineering teams use every day.
You will operate independently with minimal oversight, driving cross-functional alignment across business and IT while influencing stakeholders and executives. If you enjoy solving problems, keeping people aligned, and helping great software ship smoothly, join us and help fuel what's next.
The Impact You'll Make:
- Plan and lead website and custom application projects, selecting and tailoring the right delivery approach (Waterfall, Agile/Scrum, or hybrid) based on scope, risk, timeline, and stakeholder needs.
- For waterfall projects, develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, milestones, and risk management strategies.
- For agile projects, facilitate Scrum events — sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives — keeping teams focused, productive, and continuously improving.
- Partner with Software Engineering leadership to establish, standardize, and mature agile practices, including sprint cadence, estimation, definition of ready/done, user story standards, and team working agreements.
- Work with product owners and business stakeholders to translate business needs into well-defined epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria, and to maintain a clear, prioritized backlog.
- Lead cross-functional project teams composed of software engineers, UX/UI designers, QA, business stakeholders, and third-party agencies or vendors through all phases of the lifecycle — discovery, requirements, design, development, QA testing, UAT, release, and post-launch support.
- Coordinate release planning and deployments with engineering, QA, and DevOps, ensuring release readiness, go-live plans, rollback plans, and smooth handoff to support.
- Serve as the primary liaison between business sponsors, the Software Engineering team, and executive leadership, ensuring alignment on objectives, priorities, and expectations.
- Track and report project status using both traditional and agile metrics (e.g., milestones, budget performance, velocity, burndown/burnup, cycle time) and PMO standard tools and templates (e.g., dashboards, RAID logs, status reports).
- Identify and remove impediments, and manage project risks, issues, and cross-team dependencies, escalating appropriately and driving resolution in a timely manner.
- Manage scope and change control — evaluating formal change requests on waterfall projects and guiding backlog reprioritization on agile projects — with clear visibility into impact on schedule, cost, and resources.
- Ensure adherence and adoption of PMO governance standards and documentation requirements, right-sizing governance so it supports, rather than slows, agile delivery.
- Coordinate resource and capacity planning with Software Engineering managers to ensure project and sprint staffing needs are met.
- Manage agency, vendor, and contractor relationships, including scope adherence, deliverables, and contract compliance.
- Support budget forecasting, tracking, and reconciliation for assigned projects.
- Drive retrospectives, post-implementation reviews, and lessons-learned sessions following major releases to support continuous improvement of engineering delivery and PMO practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation in the PMO's project management system.
- Act as an ambassador for the PMO, project management, and agile delivery practices.
Who You Are
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience managing software development projects, such as websites, web applications, and custom-built applications. Preference within a formal PMO structure.
- Proven experience delivering projects using both Waterfall and Agile/Scrum methodologies, including serving as Scrum Master or delivery lead for one or more development teams.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and modern development practices, including environments, code releases, CI/CD, and QA/testing processes.
- Experience helping engineering teams establish or mature agile practices and delivery structure.
- Familiarity with web technologies such as content management systems (CMS), APIs and integrations, and cloud hosting is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently with minimal oversight.
- Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment across business and IT and influence stakeholders and executives without direct authority.
- Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of the Scrum framework and Agile principles, along with traditional Waterfall planning, and the judgment to tailor a hybrid approach when needed.
- Agile certification (e.g., CSM, PSM, PMI-ACP) preferred; PMP a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams without direct authority, coach teams on agile practices, and drive accountability across departments.
- Solid understanding of budgeting, financial tracking, and resource management principles.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation.
- Strong vendor and agency partner management skills specific to web and application development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word, SharePoint) and project management tools. ClickUp, Jira or Azure DevOps, and LucidChart or equivalent preferred.
