We are looking for a Software Engineer II to help our team bring the world's best selling video game to new platforms and drive improvements to our core engine. You will join a team of on-site engineers in Redmond, WA who are responsible for our platform implementations of foundational systems (memory, threading, file I/O, input) as we modernize our engine to scale across many endpoints.

Your expertise, ranging from high-level C++ architecture and low-level CPU features to build systems, will be used to help us efficiently ship Minecraft to new platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and refactor the Minecraft engine with an eye for quality and performance
  • Lead by example within the team by producing simple, extensible, and maintainable code
  • Repair bugs in the product by investigating and addressing root causes for systemic issues
  • Participate in design and code reviews, communicating effectively across teams when necessary

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
  • OR equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience using source control systems such as Git and collaborating in modern development workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience developing in C++, preferably cross-platform
  • Knowledge of the architecture and development of modern game engines
  • Extensive troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Experience working in Build systems (MSProj, CMake, Nmake, Gradle, YAML, GitHub workflows, etc)
  • Previous shipped video game titles as a software developer

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
