About this role
Wizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with professional video: a native C++ editor and headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers all operate.
Build the systems that help a growing team get productive and keep moving.
Why this role matters
=========================
Wizard builds professional creative software with a team working across native applications, AI, media, and production technology. As we grow, every new colleague needs dependable equipment, the right access, and a straightforward way to get help. We also share an office with Story, our sister production company, and its network, Wi-Fi, and media storage carry real client work for both teams.
We're hiring our first IT & Systems Engineer to build that capability. You'll own employee IT and improve the systems behind it, making onboarding faster, reducing recurring problems, and helping the team work effectively.
About the role
==================
You'll join our Pipeline team, which builds and improves the systems that let Wizard develop, test, ship, and scale. You'll work with Charles Harris III and our operations and engineering colleagues to establish dependable device management, account administration, support, and the office infrastructure Wizard and Story share.
This role combines hands-on support with systems engineering. You'll resolve immediate problems, recognize patterns, and turn repeated tasks into reliable processes and automation. Practical experimentation with agents and new tools is part of that work.
What you'll do
==================
- Own technical onboarding and offboarding: equipment, accounts, approved access, setup, and access removal.
- Provision and manage devices for a Mac-first team, including updates, endpoint protection, troubleshooting, and recovery.
- Administer identity and business applications, including SSO, MFA, groups, and routine access requests.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, software licenses, and assigned access.
- Keep device, access, and offboarding records ready for customer security reviews and audits such as SOC 2.
- Own the office infrastructure Wizard and Story share: network switches, Wi-Fi, NAS and shared media storage, backups, and meeting-room technology, including coordination with vendors.
- Give employees a clear way to request help, communicate progress, and resolve recurring support problems.
- Coordinate equipment purchasing within an agreed budget, repairs, warranties, spares, and retirement.
- Partner with DevOps on engineering workstations. You own device readiness and employee access; DevOps owns the development toolchain and build environment.
- Improve provisioning, support, and administration through scripts, automation, and agent-assisted workflows. Verify the results and document how others can operate what you build.
What you bring
==================
- Experience owning employee IT and support in a growing organization.
- Strong macOS administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with device management, identity systems, and application provisioning.
- Hands-on experience running office networks (switches, Wi-Fi) and shared storage such as a NAS, including backup and recovery.
- Working knowledge of endpoint security.
- Scripting ability and examples of automating repetitive administrative work.
- Sound judgment with access, credentials, and company information.
- Clear communication and the ability to prioritize individual support needs alongside improvements that help the whole team.
Experience supporting Windows, engineering workstations, creative applications, high-throughput media storage, or post-production environments would be useful.
Show us what you've built
=============================
Tell us about an onboarding process, device deployment, access-management system, or automation you introduced. What problem did it solve? How did you know it worked?
What became easier for the people using it?
We welcome different backgrounds. We care about your ability to solve problems, build dependable systems, and help colleagues get their work done.
About Wizard
================
Every so often, a new technology redefines how stories get told: the printing press, the telephone, radio, the film camera, the cutting room, television, the digital camera, non-linear editing. We think we're at the start of the next one, and we intend to build the company that defines it.
Wizard is the AI-native platform for creative work, starting with the hardest creative workflow: professional video. In roughly six months, our team built a native C++ editor and a headless media runtime that humans, agents, and developers all operate. Oz, our agent, ingests footage at roughly 300× real time and edits at 30–60× real time, and every change it makes stays inspectable, editable, and reversible.
Our philosophy is creative as code: every decision editable, controllable, composable, never generative slop you regenerate and hope for the best. Controllability over convenience. Artist integrity over automation.
Taste over throughput.
Our sister company is Story, a production company making video for frontier AI labs and deep-tech companies.
We work closely with them
Story is our first customer and in-house design partner, and its editors cut real client work on Wizard every day.
Our team comes from Industrial Light & Magic, Netflix, Apple, Epic Games, Lucasfilm, Blizzard, and 2K. We work in person in San Francisco.
