About this role
Company Description
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to automate the building of affordable, sustainable, safe, and aesthetically appealing housing. The company’s mission is to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes by transforming how residential structures are designed and built.
Verustruct focuses on integrating advanced robotics, automation, and novel construction methods into practical, scalable solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to bring next-generation construction systems from concept to field deployment, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact and long-term sustainability.
About the Role
Build the electrical systems that turn robotic construction devices into reliable, autonomous machines.
Verustruct is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer to own electrical architecture and subsystem development for our robotic construction platform. You will take systems from requirements and circuit design through board bring-up, embedded integration, machine testing, and field deployment.
Our robots combine motors, actuators, sensors, embedded controllers, and construction processes in a demanding physical environment. You will make those systems operate predictably together, with particular attention to power integrity, communications, fault handling, serviceability, and safe machine behavior.
This is a hands-on technical ownership role with opportunities to mentor engineers and shape the electrical team’s standards as we grow. It is full-time and on-site in Torrance, California.
What You'll Do
- Define electrical architectures, subsystem requirements, power budgets, and interfaces across robotic formwork, locomotion, material delivery, consolidation, and auxiliary tools.
- Own custom electronics from component selection and schematic capture through PCB layout, fabrication, assembly, bring-up, and revision.
- Develop power-distribution, motor-control, actuator-interface, and sensor-interface hardware, including appropriate protection, grounding, shielding, and thermal management.
- Write, review, and debug embedded C/C++ on STM32-class microcontrollers for sensing, actuator control, communications, diagnostics, and fault handling.
- Define and validate CAN/CAN FD network architecture, including physical topology, termination, message interfaces, bus loading, and recovery behavior.
- Design harnesses, connector interfaces, electrical enclosures, and service features for equipment exposed to vibration, dust, moisture, and electrically noisy loads.
- Partner with controls and software engineers to define timing requirements, operating states, watchdog behavior, and responses to communication or component failures.
- Develop emergency-stop, interlock, and power-isolation architectures in coordination with system safety requirements and the broader engineering team.
- Create verification plans, test fixtures, and automated tests that demonstrate electrical performance and fault response at board, subsystem, and machine levels.
- Lead electrical integration and root-cause investigation, using measured evidence to resolve intermittent and cross-disciplinary failures.
- Own electrical release documentation and design reviews, support suppliers and manufacturing partners, and mentor junior engineers.

What We're Looking For
- Substantial electrical product-development experience, typically 7+ years, with ownership of complex electromechanical systems.
- Demonstrated delivery of custom electronics from design through working hardware and integrated system testing.
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital electronics, power conversion and distribution, motor drives, signal integrity, and circuit protection.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design using KiCad, Altium, or comparable tools.
- Practical embedded C/C++ experience and the ability to debug hardware and firmware together.
- Experience integrating motors, actuators, encoders, sensors, and communications such as CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART.
- Strong bench skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, electronic loads, and other electrical test equipment.
- Experience with harness design, grounding, shielding, and troubleshooting noise or power-related failures in operating machines.
- Clear technical communication, sound design-review judgment, and a willingness to work directly on prototype hardware.
- A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Benefits
------------
Benefits include:
- Health insurance: Silver PPO plan, 80% company-paid, with optional dental and vision coverage
- Retirement: 401(k) plan with 4% employer match
- Time off: Flexible PTO policy and observed federal holidays
- Relocation support: Available for exceptional candidates relocating to the Los Angeles / Torrance area
- High-ownership role: Opportunity to help lead mechanical engineering for a venture-backed robotics company tackling housing affordability
Compensation Range: $160K - $205K
