The Role

UST is seeking a Mainframe Solutions Engineer to design, implement, and maintain mainframe solutions that primarily process ITS claims and messages in a mainframe-centric distributed application. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with mainframe technologies and healthcare data systems, preferably within the Plan environment.

What You’ll Do

• Provide technical leadership for ITS-related mainframe applications supporting plan-to-plan data exchange.
• Design and implement robust mainframe solutions for enhancements to meet business requirements from partner plans.
• Troubleshoot complex system issues across the mainframe environment.
• Optimize mainframe performance and resource utilization.
• Provide on-call production support based on assigned shifts.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mainframe systems with modern platforms.
• Ensure system compliance with healthcare data security standards.
• Document system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.

What You Need

Required

• 12+ years of experience with IBM mainframe systems (z/OS, MVS).
• Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and scheduling.
• Strong experience in mainframe application support, including analysis, coding, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, etc.).
• Experience with healthcare data processing.
• Familiarity with mainframe DevOps practices.
• Understanding of healthcare EDI transactions (837, 835, 270/271, 276/277).

Preferred

• Familiarity with inter-plan data exchange protocols and systems.
• Experience with API integration between mainframe and distributed systems.
• Deeper understanding of ITS custom claim formats SF, DF, and RF.

Location & Compensation

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.
