Marketing and Communications Coordinator – Society of Helpers & Casa Esperanza

Location: Chicago, IL (Multiple Sites) Position Type: Full-Time (35 hours/week) Reports To: Provincial Team Salary: Negotiable based on experience

About the Society of Helpers & Casa Esperanza

The Society of Helpers is an international congregation of Catholic sisters spanning 24 countries, dedicated to easing the suffering of those most in need. Our Sisters devote their lives to God and channel their energies into addressing the needs of those wounded in their human dignity. Recognizing that everyone has unique gifts, the Helpers respond to a common mission: to help in all manner of good.

They advocate for social justice and support local communities through our sponsored ministries, including Casa Esperanza and The Circle.

Position Summary

The Society of Helpers is seeking a creative, organized, and digitally savvy Marketing and Communications Coordinator to lead our digital and print communications strategies. In this role, you will be the primary voice for the Society of Helpers and Casa Esperanza across web, social, and print platforms.

A critical component of this role involves spearheading the redesign and ongoing management of our websites, executing a comprehensive social media strategy, and utilizing modern marketing tools to enhance our mission.

The successful candidate will be highly adept at managing dual content calendars, expertly balancing a strong institutional, donor-facing voice for the Society of Helpers with community-focused storytelling for Casa Esperanza.

Professional Development Opportunity

The first 4–6 months of this role will include direct mentorship, strategic onboarding, and hands-on CMS/social media training from a senior Communications Consultant to ensure the successful candidate is fully equipped to manage our digital ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management & Community Engagement

  • Facebook Strategy: Maintain the primary hub for community updates, local event pages, volunteer coordination, and donor engagement.
  • Instagram Strategy: Utilize visual storytelling (including Reels and Stories) to showcase behind-the-scenes ministry work, share inspirational quotes/stories aligned with Catholic social teaching, and connect with younger demographics.
  • YouTube Strategy: Organize and promote video content, including interviews with the Sisters, impact stories, and ministry highlights.
  • Content Calendar & Authentic Storytelling: Develop and manage a unified, dual-brand content calendar that aligns with our organizational goals, the liturgical year, and specific ministry events. Focus on authentic storytelling highlighting the people we serve, our staff, and the Sisters' mission.
  • Active Community Management: Treat social media as a two-way conversation. Promptly respond to comments and direct messages, thank supporters publicly, and foster a safe, welcoming online environment.
  • Policy & Boundary Compliance: Establish and monitor community guidelines. Ensure all digital interactions adhere to the Society's values, maintaining Christian charity in all discussions, and strictly upholding confidentiality and safe environment protocols.
  • Analytics & Growth: Track platform-specific metrics (engagement rates, reach, and follower growth) rather than just passive posting. Repurpose top-performing content and report on social media effectiveness quarterly.

Digital Strategy & Web Management

  • Website Redesign & Upkeep: Lead the creation, redesign, and daily management of websites for the Society of Helpers and Casa Esperanza. Ensure sites are mobile-responsive, user-friendly, and meet modern accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Content Creation: Research, write, edit, and produce compelling web content, including landing pages, online donation forms, and blog posts.
  • SEO Integration: Ensure website content and social media captions utilize relevant keywords so that those seeking community support or wishing to volunteer can easily find our ministries.

E-Communications & AI Integration

  • Email Marketing: Implement and manage e-communications and targeted newsletters for donors of the Society of Helpers and Casa Esperanza. Provide organization-wide e-communication support.
  • Technology Utilization: Responsibly leverage modern tools, including generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Canva AI) for content ideation and workflow efficiency, and social media management platforms (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite) for scheduling, while maintaining the authentic voice of the Helpers.

Public Relations & Print Media

  • Brand Management: Ensure graphic and brand standards are consistently maintained across all channels. Foster a positive public image that highlights the social justice issues supported by the Helpers.
  • Print Advertising & Press: Research, design, and oversee printed promotional materials, press releases, and public relations initiatives.
  • Internal Communications: Collaborate with staff to achieve professional standards for internal communications (e.g., Voices of Hope, Province Shares).

Project & Relationship Management

  • Vendor Coordination: Create production schedules and manage relationships with external graphic designers, mail houses, printers, and photographers.
  • Budgeting: Create, manage, and track budgets related to publications, advertising, and communications.
  • Archival Collaboration: Coordinate with the community to ensure culturally and historically significant digital and print materials are properly preserved.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field) with 3–4 years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree with 2–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience managing websites via CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress) and executing multi-channel social media campaigns.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in design and layout software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Working knowledge of modern email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) and social media scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with basic photography and short-form video creation for social media.

Soft Skills & Special Requirements

  • Language Skills: Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Mission-Driven: A deep understanding, appreciation, and respect for religious life, Catholic social teachings, and the core values of the Helpers.
  • Confidentiality: Strict adherence to respecting and safeguarding confidential information regarding the Sisters and their ministries.
  • Professionalism: Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to maintain calm professionalism when encountering difficult personalities or navigating sensitive online conversations.
