This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working with numbers, and interested in taking ownership of responsibilities while continuing to grow professionally.

Working closely with the Director of Finance and Accounting and other members of the finance team, the Accounting Associate will assist with domestic and overseas payroll, multistate compliance requirements, general accounting activities, and financial documentation.

As Sentry continues to grow, this position will play an important role in strengthening financial processes, maintaining accurate records, and supporting new payroll and accounting requirements.

  • Assist with preparing, processing, and reviewing domestic and overseas payroll, including employee time entries, PTO, holidays, and payroll adjustments.
  • Process and reconcile payroll deductions, employee benefits, garnishments, and payroll-related liabilities.
  • Coordinate with payroll providers, HR, and management to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Track multistate payroll compliance requirements, including employer registrations, tax accounts, required filings, renewals, and associated fees.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar and organized documentation to ensure timely completion of payroll and employer-related requirements.
  • Support Service Contract Act (SCA) payroll requirements, including wage determinations, labor classifications, health and welfare (H&W) fringe benefits, and cash payments in lieu of benefits, when applicable.
  • Assist with tracking contract-specific labor costs, employee benefits, and supporting documentation for financial reporting and audits.
  • Support payroll system updates, schedule changes, and ongoing process improvements.

General Accounting and Month-End Support

  • Enter and maintain routine transactions, vendor bills, and journal entries in QuickBooks Online.
  • Review employee reimbursements, expense reports, and credit card transactions for accurate coding and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with prepaid expenses, accruals, general ledger maintenance, and recurring month-end activities.
  • Support account reconciliations, including payroll liabilities, employee benefits, and other assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with coding expenses and labor costs to appropriate accounts, contracts, projects, or departments.
  • Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation for financial reporting and month-end close.

Financial Documentation and Process Improvement

  • Maintain complete, organized, and audit-ready accounting, payroll, and compliance records.
  • Assist with developing and updating accounting procedures, payroll documentation, and internal checklists.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance, HR, Operations, and project managers to obtain information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, and internal processes.
  • Support contract-level financial reporting, audits, and other finance-related projects.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, or financial operations preferred.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience with payroll processing, employee deductions, payroll reporting, or account reconciliations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or payroll systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, research discrepancies, and solve problems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external providers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling financial, payroll, and employee information.

Preferred Experience

  • Multistate payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
  • QuickBooks Online and Paychex or comparable payroll systems.
  • General ledger accounting, journal entries, and month-end reconciliations.
  • Government contracting, SCA payroll, or project accounting experience is helpful but not required.
