About the Hotel
Crowne Plaza Phoenix-Chandler Golf Resort is a historic landmark and Arizona’s first golf resort, dating back to 1912. Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Chandler, the property features 249 guest rooms and suites, approximately 32,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting and event space (including multiple ballrooms), an adjacent 18-hole championship golf course, outdoor pool, and on-site dining.
The hotel serves a diverse mix of group/MICE, business transient, leisure, and catering/banquet clients and is well-positioned near major Phoenix-area employers and attractions.
Position Overview
This is a paid, one-year Sales Manager-In-Training (MIT) program focused on the Sales & Catering department. Designed for recent graduates (or strong candidates with relevant experience), the program provides structured rotations, hands-on shadowing, and progressive responsibility across key hotel market segments.
Participants will develop expertise in revenue strategy, client management, event execution, pricing, sales systems, and reporting. Upon successful completion, participants are well-positioned for permanent Sales, Business Travel, or Catering Manager roles within the property or across the IHG portfolio (subject to performance and openings).
Program Structure
The 12-month program is divided into focused learning phases with increasing responsibility:
- Months 1–4: Foundation & Shadowing — Intensive orientation and shadowing of Sales & Catering managers. Exposure to Group/MICE, Business Transient, Catering/Banquets, and Leisure segments. Introduction to CRM systems, proposal writing, and daily reporting.
- Months 5–8: Rotational Development — Structured rotations through Group Sales, Business Travel, and Catering Sales. Hands-on participation in site inspections, client meetings, RFP responses, contract negotiations, and event coordination support.
- Months 9–12: Applied Leadership — Progressive ownership of accounts and projects under mentorship. Lead smaller client interactions, contribute to revenue strategies, participate fully in Daily Business Reviews, and prepare for transition into a permanent role.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow sales managers on sales calls, site inspections, client meetings, and negotiations across market segments (Group/MICE, Business Transient/Corporate, Catering/Banquets, and Leisure).
- Assist with the full sales cycle: responding to RFPs/inquiries, preparing proposals and contracts, following up on leads, and supporting contract turnover.
- Participate in rotations through Group Sales, Business Travel, and Catering/Banquet Sales.
- Support CRM systems (e.g., Delphi or equivalent), daily reporting, competitive analysis, and participation in sales/revenue meetings.
- Learn pricing strategies, revenue management basics, sales systems, and the end-to-end process from inquiry through contract and post-event follow-up.
- Assist with event coordination support, site tours, and client-facing activities.
- Attend training sessions, mentoring meetings, and contribute to prospecting and market research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or near completion) in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred; strong candidates with relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; professional demeanor and customer-service orientation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint); willingness to learn hotel sales systems and CRM tools.
- Interest in hotel sales, group business, events, or revenue management.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings or weekends as business needs require.
- Reliable transportation and ability to attend off-site client meetings or site inspections.
- Prior hospitality, sales, event, or internship experience is a plus but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay: $22–$24 per hour, depending on experience and program structure.
- Full-time schedule with eligibility for benefits (medical, dental, vision, and other standard hotel benefits where applicable).
- Structured training, dedicated mentorship from sales leaders, and comprehensive exposure across market segments.
- Clear pathway into permanent sales or catering management roles upon successful completion of the one-year program.
