About this role
Job Description
Sage is looking for an experienced Principal AI Engineer to build AI-powered solutions that accelerate and automate complex data migration into Sage products.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role for someone who can independently own substantial engineering initiatives, translate ambiguous problems into practical solutions, and take those solutions from concept through production.
This is a hybrid role, three days per week onsite in the San Jose office.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build AI/ML-powered solutions for migrating data from a variety of source systems into Sage products.
- Apply machine learning, data science, and modern AI techniques to problems including data transformation, mapping, classification, reconciliation, and validation.
- Own substantial technical projects end-to-end, from problem definition and architecture through implementation and production deployment.
- Independently drive solutions to complex and ambiguous technical problems.
- Build scalable, reliable production systems rather than prototypes alone.
- Contribute to the infrastructure and operational practices required to deploy, monitor, and maintain AI systems in production.
- Work closely with engineering, product, and domain experts to translate customer and implementation challenges into technical solutions.
- Help establish engineering patterns and best practices for applying AI across Sage's migration capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, AI, or closely related engineering disciplines.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from a top-tier university.
- Graduate study or an advanced degree in AI, machine learning, data science, or a related technical field is desirable.
- Significant hands-on experience building and deploying applied data science and/or machine learning solutions.
- Strong software engineering skills and experience developing production-grade systems.
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, or related AI Ops / MLOps practices is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver large, technically complex projects.
- Strong understanding of data pipelines, data transformation, and working with large or complex datasets.
- Experience applying modern AI technologies, including LLMs, to real-world business problems.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment with significant technical ambiguity.
