Registered Nurse (School RN)

Duties:

• Provide nursing care to students who become ill or injured during the school day.
• Assess student health concerns, monitor symptoms, and determine appropriate care or referral.
• Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, and district policies.
• Provide first aid and respond to medical emergencies, including implementing emergency care procedures when necessary.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, immunization records, medication logs, and other required documentation.
• Monitor student health needs and assist with the management of chronic conditions, allergies, and other medical concerns.
• Communicate with parents/guardians, school administrators, teachers, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs, as appropriate.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans and emergency care plans for students as needed.
• Promote student health and wellness through education, prevention, and health screenings.
• Ensure compliance with applicable New York State Department of Health and Education Department requirements, district policies, and confidentiality regulations.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary health office and follow appropriate infection control procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience:

• Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license.
• Current CPR and first aid certification preferred or required, as applicable.
• Experience working with children or in a school, pediatric, or community healthcare setting preferred.
• Ability to assess student health concerns, recognize emergencies, and prioritize care appropriately.
• Familiarity with medication administration, student health documentation, and maintaining confidential medical records.
• Knowledge of student health requirements and the ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel and families.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, parents/guardians, staff, and healthcare providers.

• Ability to manage multiple student health concerns while maintaining accurate documentation.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, medication safety, and student health practices.
• Compassion, patience, and the ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and needs.
