Job description

About this role

Referment is working with a global investment and technology organisation to hire a Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer for its Platform Engineering team. This is a strictly hands-on engineering role in a global, cross-platform group responsible for core infrastructure supporting technology development and investment activity.

You will work across Linux platforms, networks, security controls and core services in data centres, cloud environments and international offices. The role combines deep kernel-level troubleshooting with the design and integration of reliable, massive-scale infrastructure.

We are looking for an engineer who prioritises hands-on technical delivery over team management and possesses a deep curiosity for how systems work at the lowest levels.

The Role

Design, integrate and maintain operating-system and infrastructure services, with a particular focus on deep Linux engineering. Contribute to global networks, core network services and security infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. Improve the security framework of a massive-scale, fast-moving production platform governing tens of thousands of nodes.

Implement modern platform engineering practices, including Kubernetes, GitOps, and advanced operational automation. Diagnose complex host and network issues using tracing and other diagnostic tools. Work with colleagues across a global engineering team and partner departments.

What We're Looking For

  • At least ten years of comparable infrastructure engineering experience, with a focus on engineering and architecture rather than production support or general administration.
  • Deep Linux engineering and kernel-level expertise, with the ability to demonstrate a command-line driven approach to system internals.
  • Advanced software development instincts and experience building complex platform tools or contributing to open-source projects (Python, Rust, Go, or similar).
  • Extensive experience with modern automation, Kubernetes, and GitOps workflows.
  • Strong host- and network-level troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience managing or engineering for massive-scale, high-performance environments.
  • Clear communication and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and locations in a hands-on capacity.
  • Desirable Experience Active contributions to open-source projects or evidence of personal engineering projects, such as complex home labs.
  • Proficiency in Rust, Java, C, Go or C#.
  • DNS, DHCP, Kerberos, network protocols, information security, databases, large-scale storage or Windows/Linux interoperability.
  • This role is ideal for a senior Linux or platform engineer who combines deep production engineering experience with strong software-development instincts and a passion for hands-on technical challenges. #Referment
