Job description
About this role
Top Skills:
Snowflake,
dBT, Azure Cloud
Additional notes :
At a high level, we need a Platform Architect focused on the platform itself, including the tool ecosystem, platform features (POCs and roadmap), developer adoption, governance requirements, and productivity accelerators on the platform. The role should also drive platform solution patterns and bring a strong cost-benefit POV to platform investments and decisions.
We also want someone with stronger persuasion while presenting ideas.
Looking for:
- Someone who can present well to upper leadership. Make suggestions and recommendations on use cases, best technologies available, best technologies and processes for Ross current state and as they continue to modernize.
- Platform centric - more "shared services" focus on platform engineering
- Ability to create POCs on various data technologies
- Needs to be BROADER than Snowflake
◦ Ross wants to leverage an "open table" approach
◦ "Iceberg Architecture" and using Snowflake for compute
Duties/Day to Day Overview
- Provide guidance and best practices – platform, business dashboard creation, working with any new project between IT, Data, and MSI
- Business outcomes – the idea with SVT, bring all of our business domain data into one place
- Write use cases for the business
- Creating Business dashboards
- “Modelizing” all of that stuff for the business
- Will be a part of EVERY Data and Analytics project across the org
- Needs to understand security aspects, HOW does Snowflake do this?
- Working closely with Stakeholders
- Should be part of the design from the very start – understanding how Snowflake does XYZ
- Working closely with the SI partner and architects
Top Requirements
- Senior Level – potential to go to a principal level in the future (Groom them, take them to a principal level)
- Some hands on to do quick POCs – give options, build quick – PYTHON development experience (Architect level, give guidance, understand and read code, do some quick POCs)
- Features or Patterns – MUST Understand Medallion Architecture – HOW do you model, HOW to structure the data (ex: Customer Loyalty Program, HR Data
- MORE than just technical experience – good attitude, good comms, driving conversations to convince people of their advice, designs, POCs, etc.
- Retail is nice to have but not a hard requirement
Technical Requirements
- Emphasized the need for a solution architect with a solid Snowflake background, but also experience with data ingestion (e.g., StreamSets), CDC, DBT, and an understanding of dashboard/reporting enablement. 5
- Highlighted the importance of knowledge in Medallion architecture (landing, refined, published zones), data modeling, and structuring data for business use cases.
- Stressed Snowflake security expertise, especially for handling sensitive data (e.g., loyalty and HR data), and the need to work closely with information security to ensure foundational security is built into the design. 7
- Requested hands-on capability for quick POCs, not just theoretical knowledge, with Python development experience to guide and review code, and to support rapid prototyping.
