What does this role look like?
The
Software Engineer IV
will be a key member of the LE2 – Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) team supporting the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program. You will lead the software development lifecycle for automated test systems that verify flight hardware for the U.S. Navy’s ballistic‑missile flight‑test fleet.
This role blends software design, system integration, and test‑equipment development in a fast‑paced, mission‑oriented environment.
Key Activities You Will Accomplish In This Role
- Lead the concept, design, procurement, assembly, and verification of automated test systems (ATE).
- Generate software requirements from subsystem‑level specifications through to complete test‑system solutions.
- Produce detailed software documentation.
- Execute software‑level integration, troubleshooting, and validation of test systems.
- Develop and run test scripts (LabVIEW, C/C++, or Python) to automate instrument control and data capture.
- Work closely with suppliers, internal design teams, and Navy customers to deliver cost‑effective, low‑risk solutions.
- Conduct technical reviews, cost‑benefit analyses, and schedule risk assessments.
- Mentor junior engineers and guide cross‑functional teams through design, build, and test phases.
- Communicate technical status and decisions to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Maintain configuration control, change‑management, and issue‑tracking records throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with Lockheed Martin standards.
To Be Effective In This Role, You Will Need
- Experience in software design and development and software integration and troubleshooting on hardware systems
- 5+ years of professional experience for this role.
- You will need to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance, thus US Citizenship is required.

Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle.
Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software.
Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Demonstrated experience with software design and development and software integration and troubleshooting on hardware systems
Desired Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or a related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with product‑lifecycle management (Design, Development, Deployment) and issue‑tracking systems.
- Experience troubleshooting interactions between software and hardware such as network devices and lab instrumentation
- Experience with Automated Test Equipment (ATE), test‑software development (LabVIEW, C/C++, Python).
- Prior work on Electrical Ground Support Equipment, or communications systems for aerospace/defense.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary project teams and deliver on schedule and cost targets.
- Familiarity with Atlassian Products development processes.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $120600.00 - $224000.00
