We are seeking a Research Data Analyst who will provide data analysis and related activities for various types of research projects and studies. The Research Data Analyst will contribute to ongoing development, maintenance, and use of a research data pipeline that collects and analyzes data.

We are seeking an experienced Research Data Analyst to support health economics and health services research projects led by faculty in the Department of Health Policy and Management.

The Research Data Analyst will contribute to a range of policy-relevant projects examining the health of older adults, mental health and substance use, value in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, health care affordability, and improving the value and quality of health care delivery.

This is an ideal role for those interested in applying for a PhD in health economics or health services research, or those with significant experience and interest in applied academic research.

The Research Data Analyst will primarily be responsible for constructing analytic datasets from large administrative databases including health insurance claims, electronic health records (EHRs), employment records, and population survey data.

The position would involve developing analytic datasets, conducting data management and quality assessment, and applying statistical and econometric methods to support faculty-led research. In addition, the analyst may also work with more unstructured data sources such as clinical notes or business ownership records.

Candidates with experience implementing econometric research designs—including instrumental variables and difference-in-differences—as well as regression modeling are especially encouraged to apply. The position provides opportunities to contribute intellectually to research projects and, when contributions warrant, to serve as a coauthor on resulting manuscripts.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Develop and maintain analytic datasets from large administrative data sources such as health insurance claims data or electronic health record (EHR) data.
  • Perform advanced data management and data linkage, including cleaning and integrating disparate datasets, fuzzy matching of individuals or organizations, geocoding of addresses.
  • Conduct data quality assessments and exploratory analyses using descriptive statistics, visualizations, and other diagnostic methods.
  • Implement statistical and econometric analyses under faculty guidance, including regression and quasi-experimental research designs such as instrumental variables and difference-in-differences.
  • Contribute to research products and dissemination, including preparing analytic results, tables, figures, documentation for presentations and manuscripts; analysts who make substantial intellectual contributions may have opportunities for co-authorship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
