Job Details

You will set technical direction for complex C++ software systems while staying directly involved in development, debugging, testing, and integration. You will make design decisions across application, middleware, interface, and deployment layers, lead the team through formal test and fielding, and mentor other engineers.

What You'll

Own

Architecture, design, development, and integration of modern C++ (C++11 and newer) systems for submarine combat systems

Technical direction across application, middleware, interface, and deployment layers, including legacy migration to Kubernetes

Distributed application design using APIs, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and messaging middleware such as DDS or AMQP

Integration of COTS, open-source, and custom-developed software components

Diagnosis of complex software, networking, concurrency, performance, and integration issues in lab and on Navy platforms

Unit, component, integration, and system-level test strategy, and team adherence to it

Code and design reviews, engineer mentorship, and status, risk, and recommendation briefs to program leadership

Secure coding, configuration management, and engineering best practices across the team

What You Bring

Required

Active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field

8+ years of progressively responsible software development experience

Technical lead experience on a complex software product or integration effort

Advanced modern C++ (C++11+), including multithreading, asynchronous design, and performance tuning

Strong Linux experience, ideally RHEL or a derivative

Designing and troubleshooting distributed, event-driven, or service-oriented systems

Practical gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and networking fundamentals

Test strategy definition and automated testing in CI/CD, with Git-based configuration management

Translating system requirements and interface definitions into maintainable designs

Strong communication, including briefing status and risk to leadership and customers

Preferred

Kubernetes deployment and operations, including Helm, operators, or custom controllers

DDS (e.g., RTI Connext), AMQP, or other real-time messaging middleware

Tactical, combat, weapon-control, or other mission-critical system integration

Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki

Python or bash scripting for automation and tooling

DevSecOps and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, or Bamboo

Integration or test events at Navy or customer sites
