About this role
Data Engineer | Austin, TX (Remote) | Up to $200,000 Per Year
The Opportunity
We are working with a rapidly growing healthcare organisation in Austin, Texas, seeking an experienced Data Engineer to play a key role in modernising its enterprise data platform.
This is more than a standard data engineering role. You will connect data from across the healthcare ecosystem, including partner organisations, laboratories, provider networks and health information exchanges, and turn it into reliable, well-structured data that clinical and business teams can depend on.
The organisation is partway through a major migration from SQL Server to Snowflake and is building towards AI-driven analytics. We are looking for someone with proven healthcare data experience, strong hands-on technical ability, a genuine ownership mindset and the experience to troubleshoot complex data issues from end to end.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain scalable ELT/ETL pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, Azure Data Factory and Python.
- Build and optimise data models within Snowflake to support analytics, reporting and operational workflows.
- Develop and maintain API-based integrations with external partners, laboratories and healthcare data exchanges.
- Stabilise existing integration workflows on the Boomi platform and plan their migration into Snowflake.
- Support the migration of SQL Server objects, including stored procedures and SSIS packages, to Snowflake and Azure.
- Investigate and resolve pipeline failures and data issues, owning troubleshooting from source to destination.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness and consistency across all systems and data products.
- Build data capabilities that serve both clinical and business teams, including finance.
- Maintain documentation, data lineage and data dictionaries.
- Contribute to emerging analytics engineering and applied AI initiatives.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, database development or a related role.
- Healthcare IT experience is essential. Candidates must have worked with healthcare data, ideally clinical data, EHR systems (e.g. Epic), HL7 or FHIR.
- Strong, hands-on production experience with Snowflake and dbt.
- Experience building API integrations and working with external data sources.
- Advanced T-SQL and Python skills.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory or similar cloud data platforms.
- Experience working within ITIL or similar enterprise service delivery frameworks.
- A strong troubleshooting mindset and the ability to diagnose issues across systems independently.
- Boomi or other integration platform experience is a strong advantage.
- Certifications are required for this role. Candidates must hold or be willing to obtain the following within 3-6 months of starting:
- Snowflake SnowPro Core
- Microsoft Azure data engineering certification
- Epic certification
- Boomi Professional Developer
What’s on Offer
- Salary of up to $200,000 per year, depending on experience and certifications.
- Hybrid working in Austin, with remote working considered for candidates in eligible US states (quarterly visits to Austin required).
- Full-time, permanent position with a stable public healthcare organisation.
- The chance to shape a major data platform modernisation from an early stage.
- Exposure to AI, analytics engineering and complex healthcare data integration.
- Professional development, including support with industry certifications.
- Join an organisation with significant long-term growth plans and expanding healthcare services.
