Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced

Backstage Platform Engineer

to design, develop, customize, and maintain an internal developer platform using

Backstage by Spotify

. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Backstage, TypeScript/Node.js, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and developer tooling.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure, and maintain the

Backstage developer portal/platform

.

• Build and customize Backstage plugins, templates, components, and integrations.
• Develop

Software Catalog

solutions for managing services, APIs, systems, teams, and ownership metadata.

• Implement

Software Templates (Scaffolder)

to automate application and service creation.

• Integrate Backstage with

GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Jira, Kubernetes, SonarQube

, and other engineering tools.

• Develop REST APIs and integrations using

Node.js and TypeScript

.

• Deploy and manage Backstage applications in

Kubernetes/containerized environments

.

• Configure authentication and authorization using

OAuth/OIDC, Okta, Azure AD/Entra ID

, or similar identity providers.

• Build CI/CD pipelines for Backstage deployment and platform components.
• Implement observability, logging, monitoring, security, and platform governance.
• Work closely with development, DevOps, SRE, security, and platform engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot Backstage application, plugin, integration, and deployment issues.
• Establish best practices around developer experience, platform reliability, and self-service engineering.

AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Authentication/SSO using

OAuth2, OIDC, Okta, or Azure AD/Entra ID

• Strong understanding of DevOps and Platform Engineering concepts.

Preferred Skills

• Experience building

Internal Developer Platforms (IDP)

.

• Kubernetes-based platform engineering.
• Helm and Terraform.
• Argo CD / GitOps.
• Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• SonarQube integration.
• Jira integration.
• Prometheus/Grafana or similar monitoring tools.
• Experience with API catalogs and service ownership models.
• Knowledge of software engineering lifecycle and developer experience (DevEx).

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of software/platform engineering experience

• 2+ years of hands-on Backstage experience

preferred.

• Strong experience developing enterprise developer portals or internal platforms.
