About this role

Overview:

GovCIO is currently hiring for an AI SME Technical Analyst to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) subject matter expertise in support of 16th Air Force (AFCYBER) mission requirements. The AI SME will identify and assess AI opportunities, lead proof-of-concept efforts, evaluate emerging technologies, and support the responsible integration of AI capabilities into OPSEC, investigative, analytical, and operational mission areas.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of AI/ML technologies, strong strategic and analytical skills, and practical experience developing, evaluating, and implementing AI solutions within complex enterprise environments.

This position will be located at Lackland AFB, TX and will be an on-site position.

Responsibilities

Provides senior-level AI subject matter expertise supporting initiative planning, technical evaluation, proof-of-concept development, governance, and implementation.* Provides AI SME support to 16AF for initiative planning, execution, risk assessment, technical evaluation, and portfolio management.

  • Identifies, evaluates, and prioritizes AI/ML technologies, platforms, tools, and use cases that advance OPSEC and mission objectives.
  • Leads proof-of-concept development, prototyping, vendor evaluation, and technical assessments to determine operational feasibility and mission value.
  • Provides solution architecture guidance for integrating AI capabilities into existing analytical, security, and operational environments.
  • Develops AI implementation playbooks, templates, workflows, and decision frameworks to standardize evaluation, piloting, validation, and deployment.
  • Evaluates capabilities such as AI-enabled threat detection, predictive analytics, machine learning platforms, automated data correlation, pattern recognition, AI-powered web tools, and AI-driven training solutions.
  • Ensures AI initiatives align with mission requirements, enterprise governance, security requirements, and responsible AI principles.
  • Documents AI best practices, lessons learned, technical findings, risks, and implementation recommendations.
  • Maintains proficiency in emerging AI technologies, including prompt/context engineering, AI agents, agent orchestration, and evolving AI/ML architectures.
  • Facilitates knowledge transfer and capability development for A39/SIGMAN Branch personnel on AI technologies and implementation approaches.
  • Monitors emerging AI capabilities, industry trends, and applicable federal and DoD AI policies and provides recommendations to leadership.
  • Supports transition of successfully validated AI capabilities toward broader operational implementation.

Qualifications

High School with 10+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Clearance Required: TS/SCI
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, software engineering, technology integration, or a related technical field, with demonstrated experience developing, evaluating, or implementing AI/ML solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, developing, or implementing AI/ML solutions.
  • Hands-on experience applying supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, including classification, regression, clustering, anomaly detection, or related approaches.
  • Experience supporting proofs of concept, prototypes, technical evaluations, or pilot efforts.
  • Strong understanding of generative AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, and AI-enabled automation, including practical application of predictive modeling, pattern recognition, and automated data correlation.
  • Experience with prompt/context engineering, AI agents, or agent orchestration.
  • Experience developing, testing, or integrating AI/ML models using Python and common data science or machine learning frameworks.
  • Ability to assess AI technologies for mission applicability, technical feasibility, risk, security, and scalability.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to translate complex AI concepts into clear, actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting Air Force, DoD, Intelligence Community, or other federal mission environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD and federal Responsible AI, AI governance, cybersecurity, and data protection requirements.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into cybersecurity, intelligence, OPSEC, investigative, or operational workflows.
  • Experience with AI-enabled threat detection, predictive analytics, data correlation, pattern recognition, or publicly available information analysis.
  • Experience with machine learning techniques supporting segmentation/clustering, classification, predictive analytics, anomaly detection, or automated pattern recognition.
  • Experience evaluating commercial AI platforms, government-developed solutions, or emerging AI technologies.
  • Familiarity with one or more cloud or enterprise AI/ML platforms such as AWS SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning, Databricks, or comparable environments.
  • Experience briefing senior military or government leadership on AI capabilities, risks, recommendations, and implementation strategies.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based AI platforms, enterprise data architectures, APIs, and secure AI implementation approaches.
  • Experience with Python and common AI/ML development libraries or frameworks (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is preferred.
  • Relevant AI/ML, cloud, or cybersecurity certifications (e.g., AWS Machine Learning, Azure AI Engineer, Google Professional Machine Learning Engineer, Security+, or equivalent).
