About this role
EOS Defense Systems USA designs and produces highly accurate, cost-effective, modular, and scalable Remote Weapon Systems that give warfighters a decisive edge in counter-UAS and ground-to-ground missions. Trusted across platforms, we're at the forefront of defense innovation.
At EOS our people are our strength. Here, engineers own their work throughout their life cycle. Working side by side with a small, multi-disciplinary team in a safe, collaborative workplace.
The pace is fast, the mission is real, and you'll build your skills and grow your career while advancing technology that matters, from advanced effectors to AI. If you want hands-on engineering with real ownership and a direct line to the mission, EOS Defense Systems USA is the place to be.
Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Remote Weapon Systems)
EOS is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and integrate embedded software solutions that extend the capabilities of our high-performing, world-leading Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) across multiple programs. The ideal candidate will be a senior technical professional who can bridge the gap between hardware and software.
In this role, you will integrate various technologies such as the development of multi-platform software for Line-Replaceable Units (LRUs), command-and-control (C2) interfaces, and discrete electrical signals to enable full remote control of our weapon systems.
You will collaborate directly with our electrical engineering team, reviewing PCB schematics and component data sheets to ensure hardware perfectly aligns with software requirements.
This is an on-site position located at our facility in Huntsville, AL.
Responsibilities:
- Embedded Software Architecture & Development: Design and implement robust, real-time software solutions across bare-metal, FreeRTOS, and Embedded Linux environments.
- Hardware-Software Co-Design: Review PCB schematics and component datasheets; collaborate extensively with electrical engineers to guarantee hardware effectively supports software capabilities.
- Control & Fire-Control Systems: Support critical technology upgrades by modifying DSP-based motor-control software and enhancing our Java-based Fire-Control System (FCS).
- LRU Engineering: Develop software for critical line-replaceable units, integrating command-and-control (C2) interfaces with discrete electrical signals for comprehensive remote operation.
- System Integration & Field Support: Work cross-functionally to integrate software with EO/IR and radar systems; travel as required to support customer reviews, field integration, and live-fire test operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.
- Experience: 8+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience, with a strong focus on embedded systems.
- Platform & Hardware Expertise: Proven development experience with Microchip microcontrollers/microprocessors, their development ecosystems, and general C/C++ bare-metal and RTOS programming.
- Industry & Security: Demonstrated experience working in a Government Contracting Environment. Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level U.S. security clearance.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; willingness to travel to customer reviews or test ranges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Degree: Master's degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
- Linux Build Systems & Tools: Hands-on experience building custom embedded Linux distributions using the Yocto Project.
- Middleware & Networking: Proficiency with DDS publish/subscribe middleware, TCP/UDP sockets, RS-232, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) protocols.
- Advanced Weapon System Tech: Experience developing Command and Control (C2) software, integrating EO/IR or radar systems, and exposure to EO/IR test and evaluation instruments.
- Next-Gen Innovation: Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning concepts and their practical application to advance automation and targeting software in remote weapon systems
Outstanding Benefits/Perks:
- Excellent insurance coverage
- 401(k) match
- Generous PTO
- Tuition Reimbursement
