About this role

Associate Attorney

Location:

Newport Beach, CA (On Site)

Company:

CoverageX LLC

Job Overview

CoverageX is a leading provider in the Vehicle Service Contract industry, helping drivers protect themselves from unexpected repair costs through reliable coverage and exceptional customer service. We are committed to maintaining a professional, collaborative environment where experienced professionals can contribute meaningfully and grow their careers.

We are seeking a Junior/Associate Attorney to join our in-house legal team in our Newport Beach office. This role supports corporate, litigation, and regulatory matters across the business, working closely with our paralegal, outside counsel, and leadership.

It is an ideal opportunity for a newly admitted or early-career attorney who wants meaningful hands-on responsibility from day one, direct exposure to a growing insurance and consumer-protection business, and a clear path to expand their scope over time.

What you will be doing

Corporate & Contracts

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, service agreements, partnership agreements, and NDAs.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including maintaining corporate records, resolutions, and entity filings.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating consumer-facing documents such as vehicle service contracts, terms of service, and privacy policies.

Litigation & Dispute

Support

  • Support litigation and pre-litigation matters in coordination with outside counsel, including discovery, document review, and case tracking.
  • Draft correspondence, demand responses, and internal memoranda summarizing case posture, risk, and recommended next steps.
  • Help manage case files, deadlines, and reporting to leadership on the status of active matters.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Assist with regulatory compliance matters, including telemarketing regulations (TCPA), consumer protection laws, and state insurance and service contract regulations.
  • Monitor changes in applicable law and regulation and help translate them into practical guidance for internal teams.
  • Support internal compliance reviews, training materials, and policy documentation.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with the paralegal team on case management, document review, and coordination with outside counsel.
  • Advise business stakeholders across sales, operations, marketing, and technology on day-to-day legal questions, escalating novel or high-risk issues appropriately.
  • Provide clear, practical, and business-oriented legal guidance to non-lawyers.

What we are looking for

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar admission and in good standing.
  • 0–4 years of legal experience, whether in a law firm, in-house legal department, regulatory agency, judicial clerkship, or through substantial law school internships or clinics.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-supported analysis.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities, and comfort managing multiple matters at once.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis, or similar) and standard office software.
  • Sound judgment, professional discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Willingness to work on-site in our Newport Beach office and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to consumer protection, TCPA, telemarketing, or advertising law.
  • Experience with contract drafting and negotiation in a corporate or commercial setting.
  • Familiarity with the insurance, vehicle service contract, warranty, or extended service plan industry.
  • Prior experience coordinating with outside counsel or managing external legal spend.
  • Coursework, internships, or clerkships in litigation, regulatory, or corporate practice.

Benefits (After 90 Days)

  • Weekly Pay.
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Paid Training.
  • Life Insurance Policy.
