About this role

Lead the Financial Strategy Behind Manufacturing Growth

Commercial Plastics is a leading plastic injection molding manufacturer committed to delivering quality, innovation, and operational excellence. We are seeking a hands-on, business-minded Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations while serving as a key partner in pricing, quoting, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making.

This is more than a traditional accounting role. The Controller will have a direct impact on business growth, customer profitability, operational performance, and executive decision-making. You'll work closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Business Development to ensure every quote, pricing decision, and financial recommendation supports long-term profitability and success.

If you enjoy combining strong accounting leadership with manufacturing analytics, pricing strategy, and continuous improvement, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

Financial Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cost Accounting, and General Accounting functions.
  • Establish accountability, performance expectations, and professional development plans for the accounting team.
  • Drive process improvements, cross-training initiatives, and automation opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary financial resource for operational and departmental leaders.

Quoting, Pricing & Profitability Analysis

  • Own the company's financial quoting and customer pricing processes.
  • Develop and maintain customer-specific pricing models and profitability analyses.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Business Development, and Supply Chain to ensure quotes reflect accurate cost assumptions and profitability targets.
  • Evaluate customer margins, identify pricing risks, and recommend price adjustments when required.
  • Support customer pricing discussions and commercial negotiations.

Manufacturing Cost Accounting

  • Lead cost accounting activities and maintain accurate ERP costing information.
  • Analyze labor, material usage, cycle times, scrap, overhead, inventory, and manufacturing variances.
  • Develop reporting that connects quoting assumptions to actual operating performance and realized profitability.
  • Support inventory controls, physical inventories, and cycle-count programs.

Financial Reporting & Business Analysis

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, forecasts, and business analyses.
  • Analyze results against budgets, forecasts, and historical performance.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to leadership on financial and operational performance.

Cash Management & Accounting Controls

  • Oversee Accounts Receivable, collections, credit management, and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital performance.
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, insurance renewals, and financial compliance requirements.

Strategic Business

Partner

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, capital investment evaluations, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Translate complex financial information into practical business recommendations.
  • Provide leadership with clear insight into profitability, cost drivers, pricing opportunities, and business risks.

What Success Looks Like

Successful candidates will:

  • Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain a disciplined and efficient month-end close process.
  • Build a strong, accountable, and highly capable accounting team.
  • Develop reliable quoting and pricing systems that support profitable growth.
  • Provide leadership with clear, fact-based recommendations regarding customer pricing, margins, and business performance.
  • Improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and operational visibility throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting, finance, pricing, manufacturing costing, or related experience.
  • Experience leading and developing accounting or finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting and product costing.
  • Experience with financial reporting, general ledger accounting, month-end close, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, cash management, inventory, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or similar advanced credential.
  • Experience in plastic injection molding or a comparable manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing and maintaining customer pricing models and quotations.
  • Experience with IQMS/DELMIAWorks ERP systems.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Query, Crystal Reports, or similar reporting tools.
  • Proven success improving or automating financial and business processes.
