About this role

Senior Electrical Engineer - RF & High-Frequency Systems A New Jersey-based engineering organization is expanding its product development team and seeking an experienced electrical engineer with expertise in RF, microwave, analog, and mixed-signal hardware.

This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated electronic products from initial architecture through validation and release, with substantial influence on technical direction and design execution. The successful candidate will be a hands-on contributor comfortable working in both design and laboratory environments.

In addition to technical leadership, the role involves supporting engineering best practices and helping develop the capabilities of less experienced team members. Position Overview This role focuses on the development of high-performance electronic hardware used in advanced technology applications.

The engineer will be responsible for translating product requirements into robust circuit designs, supporting PCB implementation, integrating prototypes, conducting performance testing, and resolving challenging technical issues throughout the development cycle. Individuals who enjoy a combination of design innovation, laboratory work, and cross-functional collaboration will thrive in this environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement RF, microwave, analog, and mixed-signal circuitry for new product platforms.
  • Develop signal-processing and data-conversion circuits utilizing components such as converters, amplifiers, filters, and supporting interface electronics.
  • Create electrical schematics and guide hardware designs through the complete development lifecycle.
  • Partner with PCB layout specialists to ensure successful implementation of high-speed and high-frequency circuit designs.
  • Evaluate board layouts with emphasis on EMC performance, grounding strategy, signal integrity, thermal considerations, isolation, and manufacturability.
  • Develop and document hardware verification methods, fixtures, and test approaches.
  • Perform board-level integration, debug, characterization, and qualification activities.
  • Utilize laboratory instrumentation to investigate, isolate, and resolve hardware-related issues.
  • Assess technical risks, design constraints, and architectural tradeoffs during product development.
  • Support transition activities between engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations.
  • Generate engineering documentation including specifications, test plans, design reports, and development records.
  • Participate in technical reviews and provide recommendations on design direction and implementation strategies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on hardware development methodologies.
  • Contribute to process improvements that increase product reliability, development efficiency, and design quality.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. Approximately 5+ years of experience developing complex electronic hardware systems. Demonstrated expertise in RF and microwave circuit development.

Strong background in analog and mixed-signal design techniques. Experience with data acquisition and signal-conditioning electronics, including converter-based architectures. Proficiency in schematic capture and hardware design tools.

Experience supporting high-speed or high-frequency printed circuit board development. Solid understanding of signal integrity, grounding methods, noise mitigation, power distribution, and RF implementation practices. Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and related instrumentation.

Proven ability to debug and validate electronic hardware in a laboratory setting. Experience supporting prototype evaluation, verification, and performance characterization. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts across engineering and non-engineering groups. Demonstrated success working independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Experience providing technical leadership, guidance, or mentorship is highly valued.

Desired Qualifications Experience with RF/microwave systems and high-frequency circuit design. Knowledge of RF amplifiers, filters, mixers, oscillators, and frequency-conversion circuits. Experience with high-speed ADC/DAC architectures and low-noise analog design.

Familiarity with RF PCB layout, controlled impedance, transmission lines, grounding, and isolation techniques. Proficiency with simulation tools such as ADS, AWR, LTspice, PSpice, or similar. Experience using PCB design platforms including Altium, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, or equivalent.

Background developing hardware test fixtures and validation solutions. Experience supporting products through design, prototype, validation, and production release. Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and reliability practices.

Industry experience in aerospace, defense, communications, medical devices, semiconductors, instrumentation, or other high-reliability electronics sectors. Prior mentoring, technical leadership, or engineer development experience. Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
