Each owns the backlog for a Scrum team, writes the technical user stories engineers build from, runs Agile ceremonies and drives delivery. This is a product ownership role, not a Scrum Master or project manager role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the product backlog for data platform or BI capabilities, prioritizing with engineering leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Break technical epics into user stories with clear acceptance criteria that engineers can execute.
  • Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives for an assigned Scrum team.
  • Track milestones, dependencies, risks and Agile metrics, and report status to stakeholders and director-level leadership.
  • Coordinate across data engineering, BI engineering, QA, DevOps, infrastructure and security on development, testing and releases.
  • Support roadmap and release planning, including release readiness, UAT, deployment planning and post-release validation.
  • Partner with engineering on ingestion pipelines, transformations, enterprise and semantic data models, reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Apply data quality, governance and documentation practices throughout delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years in technical product ownership, software or project delivery, or related roles.
  • Direct ownership of technical backlogs: creating, prioritizing, refining and grooming.
  • Experience writing detailed technical user stories and acceptance criteria independently.
  • Experience independently leading Scrum ceremonies and sprint execution for a technical team.
  • Working knowledge of data concepts: databases, data structures, ingestion, pipelines, data modeling, APIs and BI.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira, Azure DevOps or similar tools.
  • Strong communication skills with engineers, stakeholders and senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data platform, data engineering or business intelligence product experience.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Power BI, Cognos or similar platforms; medallion architecture.
  • Data governance, data quality or metadata management experience.
  • CSPO, CSM or comparable Agile certification; CDMP or comparable data management certification.
  • Professional services experience (legal, financial or consulting).
  • SQL, Python and hands-on coding are not required.
  • Work Arrangement Full-time in Chicago with a standard expectation of five days per week in the office; a minimum of three days onsite may be available at the firm's discretion.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
