About this role

Senior Accounting Manager

Greater New York | Full-Time | Onsite / Hybrid Flexibility | Reports to CFO

About Avenue Dermatology

Avenue Dermatology is a physician-led dermatology platform anchored by two of the Upper East Side's most established practices, Gendler Dermatology and Lewis Dermatology.

Currently operating across two flagship Manhattan locations with a growing provider team, and a third location on the way, we are actively building the infrastructure, systems, and leadership capacity to support continued platform growth through acquisition and de novo expansion. We operate under an MSO/PC structure and are investing meaningfully in the operational and financial foundation required to scale.

The Role

The Senior Accounting Manager will own day-to-day accounting operations across Avenue's multi-entity structure. This is the recurring work that keeps the practices' and MSO and PC books accurate and current, from accounts payable and credit card reconciliations to payroll accruals and revenue recognition.

This is a hands-on, detail-driven role: you'll partner closely with practice-level operations staff on bill payments and credit card reconciliations and manage one fractional support role.

You will report directly to the CFO and work closely with the Director of Operations and practice-level teams to keep the books accurate as the platform grows. Over time, this role is expected to grow into a Controller position, ultimately owning all accounting, payroll, the credit card program and expense reimbursement, inventory/COGs (though not necessarily procurement itself), Sales Tax, and potentially Insurance.

What Success Looks Like

  • Take ownership of our recurring accounting processes. This includes AP processing, credit card reconciliations, bank statement filing, payments reporting, and payroll accruals, among others (detailed below)
  • Build strong working relationships with practice-level operations staff, and take on management of your direct report, with a clear development plan in place
  • Own payroll to ledger, AR/deferred revenue reconciliation, and Physicians' payments reporting — with appropriate ramp-up support
  • Build towards ownership of the Revenue processes, which remain with the CFO for the first 3–6 months while underlying systems and controls mature
  • Demonstrate readiness to grow into a Controller-level scope of responsibility

Responsibilities Weekly / Bi-Weekly

  • Own Accounts Payable (AP) processing, including invoice entry and review coordination
  • Own the inventory management for the practices
  • Own Payments Reconciliation for the practices
  • Own Credit Card Reconciliation across all entities, including ongoing cleanup of budgets and categories in our spend-management platform
  • Grow into ownership of the allocation of Payroll to Ledger —tied to data from payroll provider that does not automatically sync with our ERP

Monthly

  • Own reporting requirements related to cash and revenue reconciliation, including: AR, Credit on Account/Deferred, Payments, and Bank Statements
  • Own Procurement reconciliation process, tying ACH activity to the correct class and account
  • Own Payroll Accrual processing for both 1099 contractors and our PEO-processed employees
  • Own the Pre-Close Accounts Receivable reconciliation process
  • Own ASA (administrative services agreement) invoicing for the practices
  • Grow into ownership of AR / Deferred Revenue Reconciliation and MD Payments Reporting
  • Grow into ownership of the Revenue processes over the first 3–6 months

Quarterly / As Needed

  • Own quarterly CRT filings
  • Coordinate quarterly Sales Tax filings with our outside tax firm

What You'll Need to Succeed (Required)

  • CPA (active or in progress) with 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to revenue recognition
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, with hands-on ownership of the monthly close process
  • Experience operationalizing revenue processes — billing, revenue tracking, and reconciliations
  • Experience in multi-unit healthcare or experiential retail
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple entities and reconciliations simultaneously without losing accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and cross-functional communication skills, particularly with non-finance operational staff
  • Working knowledge of QBO or other similar general ledger/ERP systems
  • Working knowledge of BILL or other similar AP and credit card program systems

Preferred

  • Experience in an early-stage, private equity-backed, or MSO-structured environment
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-growing, founder-led environment with evolving systems and controls
  • Familiarity with NY-specific healthcare compliance requirements
  • Experience in both fee-for-service (insurance) and self-pay/cash-pay revenue environments
  • Working knowledge of practice management systems (Nextech, EZDerm, or comparable)

Hybrid Model

This role features a hybrid model based in our Upper East Side office (4 days/week in-office during an initial 8-week onboarding period, transitioning to 2+ days/week in-office thereafter).
