About this role
AutoDesSys, Inc. | form·Z Development Team
AutoDesSys, Inc. is seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer to join the form·Z development team. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of form·Z, our professional 3D modeling and design software.
This position offers an opportunity to work on a sophisticated 3D modeling application used by architects, designers, and other professionals worldwide. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and an interest in 3D graphics, geometric modeling, and computer-aided design (CAD).
Responsibilities will include developing new features, improving existing functionality, troubleshooting complex technical issues, optimizing performance, and helping advance the capabilities of form·Z across supported platforms.
We welcome candidates with a range of educational and professional backgrounds who have the technical skills, curiosity, and enthusiasm to contribute to the continued evolution of our software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, and maintain software features for the form·Z 3D modeling application.
- Develop and enhance solid modeling, geometric modeling, and 3D design functionality.
- Analyze and resolve complex software issues involving geometry, modeling operations, application behavior, and performance.
- Write efficient, reliable, and maintainable code.
- Collaborate with other developers to plan, implement, and integrate new features.
- Participate in debugging, testing, code reviews, and software quality improvements.
- Maintain and improve existing code while helping modernize and extend the software architecture.
- Contribute to cross-platform development and compatibility on macOS and Windows, as applicable.
- Evaluate new technologies, development tools, and approaches that could improve the product.
Required Qualifications
We will consider candidates with diverse educational and professional backgrounds, including computer science, engineering, mathematics, industrial design, architecture, or related fields.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Experience in software development using C or C++.
- A solid understanding of programming fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with solid modeling, geometric computation, 3D graphics, or related technical fields.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a development team.
- A willingness to learn an established, sophisticated software codebase and contribute to its ongoing development.
- A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degrees are welcome but not required.
Additional Valuable Experience
Experience in any of the following areas would be a significant advantage:
- 3D geometric modeling: Solid modeling algorithms, surface modeling, NURBS, Boolean operations, mesh processing, geometric computation, or computational geometry.
- CAD and modeling technologies: Experience with industry-standard geometric modeling libraries such as ACIS or similar technologies.
- 3D graphics: OpenGL, GPU-based rendering, graphics pipelines, visualization, or interactive 3D applications.
- Professional 3D software: Experience with form·Z, SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER (Creo), Maya, 3ds Max, or other CAD, BIM, or 3D modeling applications.
- Cross-platform development: Experience developing desktop applications for macOS and/or Windows.
- Software architecture: Experience maintaining large, established codebases, integrating third-party libraries, or modernizing legacy software.
- Design and visualization: Knowledge of architectural design, industrial design, product design, or other 3D design workflows.
- Interoperability: Experience with CAD file formats, including DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, or other 3D data exchange formats.
- Performance optimization: Experience profiling and optimizing computationally intensive applications.
Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate is curious, resourceful, and enthusiastic about solving difficult technical problems. They take pride in writing high-quality code, and can balance new development with the careful maintenance of existing functionality.
An interest in the intersection of software engineering, mathematics, and 3D design is particularly valuable.
