About this role
Job Summary The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO®) ARELLO is hiring a Staff Accountant to own the day-to-day financial operations of the association and its charitable arm, the ARELLO Foundation (a 501(c)(3)).
This is a hands-on accounting role with real ownership: you run the books, close the month, keep us audit-ready year round, and give the CEO and Finance Committee clean, timely numbers they can trust. This role will also handle the financial management for the ARELLO Foundation, a 501c(3), which serves as the charitable arm of the organization promoting real estate education projects.
ARELLO® is a 501c(6) nonprofit trade association that supports regulatory agencies and officials in real estate and related fields. ARELLO® facilitates the exchange of information and cooperation among regulators and policymakers across the globe to promote policies that enhance public protection in real estate transactions.
It sets standards for real estate practice and education, and provides a forum for its members to collaborate on issues affecting the real estate industry. Additionally, ARELLO® develops and enforces guidelines to ensure that real estate license law is implemented fairly and uniformly.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will generally include the functions listed above, but will also include member support, online inquiry responses, report preparation, word processing, budget analysis, staff support for event and committee management, and staying updated on industry trends and policy changes.
- Run accounts payable and receivable. Process A/P and A/R daily through QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and ARELLO's member platform (training provided). Manage collections and credit.
- Close the month. Reconcile all bank, credit card, and investment accounts and deliver the income statement, balance sheet, and budget-to-actual report to the CEO within 10 business days of month end.
- Keep two sets of clean books. Maintain separate, audit-ready records for ARELLO (501(c)(6)) and the ARELLO Foundation (501(c)(3)), including grant and restricted fund tracking.
- Own the audit and tax cycle. Coordinate with our outside CPA firm on the annual audit and Form 990 filings. Organize supporting documentation so the audit runs on schedule without surprises.
- Build and monitor the budget. Partner with the CEO on the annual budget, track monthly performance against it, and flag variances early with a recommendation attached.
- Support the Finance Committee and Treasurer. Prepare agendas, financial packets, and minutes for Finance Committee meetings. Present the numbers clearly to volunteer leaders who are not accountants.
- Manage payroll, benefits administration, and the 401(k). Review payroll each cycle, coordinate with our outsourced HR firm and plan providers, and keep filings current.
- Oversee investments with the CEO. Work with our outside financial advisors on the reserve and Foundation portfolios and report on them quarterly.
- Handle vendor and sponsor invoicing. Invoice sponsors and members accurately and on time and keep vendor relationships in good standing.
- Protect confidential information. Financial, personnel, and member data are handled with discretion and appropriate controls.
- Pitch in. On a small team everyone helps with member inquiries, events, and committee support when the calendar demands
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education Credentials Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Management, or related field.
-Five or more years of hands-on accounting experience with full ownership of the monthly close. Nonprofit or association experience is strongly preferred; familiarity with Form 990 and single entity audits is a real advantage.
- CPA, CMA, or Certified Bookkeeper credential is a plus, not a requirement.
- Fluency in QuickBooks Online and Bill.com. Advanced Excel is required. Experience with Google Workspace, ClickUp, and Slack is helpful.
-Working knowledge of investment reporting and comfort collaborating with outside advisors.
- Exceptional organization and follow-through. You keep a list, you close loops, and deadlines are not suggestions.
- Strong communication skills, adept in both verbal and written forms.
- Competence in financial tasks including basic bookkeeping, budget management, and financial reporting.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team, in office or remote settings.
- Capable of handling confidential and proprietary data with high digital competency and reliability.
- Committed to assisting CEO with special projects and routine duties aligned with organizational goals.
- Prepared for frequent internal on-camera meetings with staff teams and committee members, ensuring a professional presence online with good audio, appropriate background, and presentability.
Position Details:
- Full-time, remote position reporting directly to the CEO. Must have the ability to work in a space that is suitable for multiple on-camera meetings with availability between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST.
- Starting annual salary is competitive, tailored for remote environments to allow flexible work schedules with a starting range of $85,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year/ annual commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package includes generous medical, vision, dental, and a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions up to 5%.
- Position will involve travel approximately 2-4 times per year.
