Manager, People Operations

About Alvarez & Marsal

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with entrepreneurial, action- and results-oriented professionals. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and helping them reach their potential. A&M is different by design: we give people ownership and impact from day one, fuel development through real opportunity, and provide direct access to leaders who invest in our growth.

Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact clients and shape our industry. Guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity, our collaborative, globally minded environment is why our people love working at A&M.

The Team

The Manager of People Operations will serve as a strategic People partner embedded within the Tax People Operations function, supporting the US Tax practice’s Private Capital team. This role works collaboratively across the People Team and with Tax leadership to support consistent, high-quality people programs, processes, and experiences.

The position focuses on enabling the business through thoughtful people strategies, strong execution, and alignment with firmwide and Global People Organization priorities.

This role is well-suited for a leader who balances strategic perspective with practical execution, contributes to People initiatives across Tax, and supports leaders and teams through periods of growth and change.

How you will contribute

  • Partner with Tax leaders and the People Team to support the execution of people priorities, workforce needs, and key initiatives across the Tax practice.
  • Leverage workforce data and insights to inform discussions related to organizational structure, capacity planning, and talent-related decisions.
  • Support the development and delivery of People programs focused on performance management, engagement, and career development.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and onboarding partners to support hiring and integration needs, ensuring alignment with workforce planning and diversity objectives.
  • Partner with Learning & Development and Tax leaders to help implement learning initiatives addressing technical, professional, and leadership development needs.
  • Assist with career architecture, succession planning, and mentorship initiatives that promote growth, retention, and internal mobility.
  • Serve as a People Operations partner to managers by providing guidance on employee relations matters, organizational effectiveness, and change initiatives impacting the Tax practice.
  • Support the execution of core talent management processes, including performance management cycles, onboarding, and employee lifecycle activities, in collaboration with People Team colleagues.
  • Contribute to special projects and evolving business needs with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach.
  • This role requires regular in-office presence in New York City three days a week to support key stakeholders and collaboration needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience considered. Experience in Professional Services is strongly preferred. Advanced degree(s) or certification(s) (e.g., SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PMP) are a plus.
  • 7+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or Talent Management, ideally within a professional services or consulting environment.
  • Experience supporting and executing People programs across multiple stakeholder groups or business lines.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze data, manage competing priorities, and support change initiatives.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships and partner collaboratively with leaders, managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a practical, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Power BI; comfort working with data for reporting and insights.

Your journey at A&M

At A&M, professional growth is tied directly to performance, not tenure. Our people take on meaningful, hands-on work supported by a performance development process that rewards contribution and fosters a culture of meritocracy.

Stretch roles, evolving business needs, and firm growth create ongoing opportunities for ownership and building new skills, while direct access to senior leaders provides mentorship and real-time coaching along the way. We also prioritize your wellbeing through comprehensive benefits and resources. Together, these elements create an environment where high-performing professionals can continue to grow and advance from day one.

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings’ fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages at rates determined periodically as well as a 401(k) retirement savings plan.

Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive an annual discretionary contribution to their 401(k) retirement savings plan from Alvarez & Marsal. The amount of vacation and personal days available varies based on tenure and role type. Click here for more information regarding A&M’s benefits programs.

The salary range is $110,000 - $130,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
