Job Description The Product Manager – Multi-Cook & Quick Chillers owns the strategy, portfolio, and commercial performance of Alto-Shaam’s Multi-Cook Oven and QuickChiller™ categories. This role is accountable for the full product line life cycle — from market insight and product development through pricing, positioning, and end of life.
This is an experienced, hands-on role for a product manager who has already owned a product line and launched products, and who can lead cross-functional teams, make sound commercial decisions, and represent both categories confidently to customers, the sales channel, and leadership.
The ideal candidate for an Product Manager would be able to do the following:
1. Understand the Market
- Serve as the voice of the customer — gathering input from operators, chain accounts, dealers, consultants, and reps, and translating it into clear needs and opportunities.
- Lead competitive intelligence and track new products and technology across cooking and commercial refrigeration.
- Conduct global segment and trend analysis
2. Product Positioning
- Own pricing strategy for new and existing products — setting and defending list, options, and discount
- Define customer ROI and value; build core product messaging and the application for each category.
- Drive launch readiness and sales enablement with Marketing, Sales, Tech Pubs, and Service — sales tools, training, and channel communication.
3. Plan the Portfolio
- Own the product roadmap for both categories, including change cycles, controls strategy, and new product development (NPD).
- Build business cases for new opportunities in products, applications, and markets, defining market potential, target pricing and cost, margin, and return on investment.
- Define and own product requirements with Engineering, partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Culinary.
4. Manage for Performance
- Own unit forecasting on a rolling 5- to 7-year horizon, and drive portfolio vitality through new and refreshed products.
- Manage the product life cycle, including SKU rationalization and planned obsolescence.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, finance, or a related field
- Approximately 5 years of experience, including 3+ years in product management, product marketing, or category management — ideally with an engineered or durable-goods manufacturer.
- Demonstrated ownership of a product line, including pricing, positioning, and at least one new product launched from concept through launch.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint; ERP and quoting experience (Oracle Fusion Cloud, AutoQuotes) preferred. Foodservice equipment, cooking, or commercial refrigeration experience preferred.
Skills & Attributes
- Commercial and strategic judgment. Thinks in price, margin, and share — not just features — and makes clear trade-offs.
- Cross-functional leadership. Aligns Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Marketing around a decision without formal authority.
- Customer orientation. Understands how operators cook, chill, and hold food, and turns that insight into winning products.
- Presence and communication. Credible with customers, dealers, sales, and leadership; explains analysis in decision-ready language.
- AI fluency. Uses AI tools such as Claude as everyday leverage for research, analysis, and communication — with sound judgment.
