Job description

About this role

Allen Green & Williamson, an established public accounting firm in Monroe, Louisiana, is seeking an experienced, motivated, and well-rounded accounting professional to join our team.

We are looking for more than someone with strong technical accounting and tax knowledge. We want a proactive, confident professional who takes initiative, embraces challenges, and is comfortable taking ownership of their work.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in both taxation and general accounting, is capable of independently managing client engagements, and has the desire and potential to grow into a leadership role within our tax department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities.
  • Independently manage assigned client engagements from initial planning through completion, including direct client communication.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, adjusting journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting work.
  • Work extensively with QuickBooks Online, including reviewing client records, identifying and correcting accounting issues, and assisting clients with bookkeeping and reporting questions.
  • Research complex tax and accounting matters and develop practical, well-supported solutions.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and proactively address client needs.
  • Manage multiple engagements, prioritize deadlines, and ensure timely completion of work.
  • Review work prepared by other staff and provide guidance and technical support.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to improve processes, workflow, and departmental efficiency.
  • Assume increasing leadership and supervisory responsibilities as capabilities are demonstrated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA license preferred; required for advancement to Tax Manager.
  • 5+ years of public accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles, financial statement preparation, and adjusting journal entries.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online preferred.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns.
  • Experience with Lacerte tax software preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage client engagements and meet deadlines.
  • Experience reviewing work and mentoring staff is a plus.

What We're Looking For

Beyond technical qualifications, we place significant value on initiative, accountability, and professional judgment.

The ideal candidate:

  • Takes ownership: Accepts responsibility for assignments and client relationships, following projects through to completion.
  • Works independently: Can organize, prioritize, and complete engagements without constant oversight.
  • Demonstrates initiative: Recognizes what needs to be done, anticipates potential issues, and takes action.
  • Embraces challenges: Is willing to tackle unfamiliar situations, research solutions, and learn new skills.
  • Thinks critically: Understands the reasoning behind accounting and tax treatments rather than simply following prior-year work.
  • Communicates confidently: Is comfortable working directly with clients, asking appropriate questions, and providing professional guidance.
  • Shows leadership potential: Sets a positive example, supports coworkers, and is willing to accept increasing responsibility.
  • Is adaptable: Welcomes new technology, changing responsibilities, and opportunities to improve existing processes.

Career Growth and Leadership Opportunity

This position offers the opportunity to become an integral part of our firm's future.

Initially, the selected candidate will focus on independently managing client engagements, delivering high-quality accounting and tax services, and building strong working relationships with clients and team members.

As the individual demonstrates the necessary technical proficiency, professional judgment, and leadership abilities, there is an opportunity to assume broader responsibility for the tax department, including staff supervision, workflow management, and departmental leadership.

Advancement to Tax Manager requires CPA licensure. Candidates who are not currently licensed may be considered for the Senior Tax Accountant position and are encouraged to pursue certification if interested in future management opportunities.
