Position Title: User Experience (UX) Designer
Position Summary
The UX Designer is responsible for designing intuitive, accessible, and engaging digital experiences that meet user needs and business objectives. This role collaborates with stakeholders, business analysts, developers, content strategists, and project managers to research, design, test, and continuously improve digital products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct user research through interviews, surveys, workshops, usability testing, and analytics review.
- Create personas, journey maps, user flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Translate business requirements and user needs into effective design solutions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define user experience strategies and design requirements.
- Facilitate design thinking and user-centered design workshops.
- Validate design concepts through usability testing and iterative feedback cycles.
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG requirements.
- Create, maintain, and evolve scalable design systems, including reusable components, patterns, documentation, style guides, and UX standards, in collaboration with design and development teams.
- Work closely with development teams during implementation to ensure design fidelity.
- Analyze user feedback and performance metrics to recommend improvements.
- Support content strategy and information architecture activities.
- Stay current with emerging UX trends, tools, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of UX design experience for websites, web applications, or digital platforms.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
- Proficiency with Figma for interface design, wireframing, prototyping, and design collaboration.
- Knowledge of user-centered design methodologies and design thinking principles.
- Understanding of responsive design and modern web standards.
- Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- A portfolio or representative work samples that demonstrate the design process, problem-solving approach, and completed UX work; submissions may be provided in any accessible format and do not need to be a website.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting federal government or public-sector digital services.
- Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility compliance and WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards.
- Familiarity with Drupal, content management systems, or digital experience platforms.
- Certification in UX, Human-Centered Design, or related disciplines.
