The LUMIN&CE AI team, part of Core Intelligence in Apple Services Core Data & Intelligence (CDI), provides Machine Learning and Generative AI capabilities for Apple Services.

As an Engineering Manager in LUMIN&CE AI, you will lead the Text Generation team, a small, agile team of machine learning engineers working on advanced Generative AI technologies for Text Generation across Apple Services. This is a hands-on role: you will spend about 60% of your time building alongside the team, designing systems, writing code, and developing models.

The rest of your time goes to setting the team's technical direction, growing its people, and owning the delivery of Text Generation capabilities that support Global Markets for Apple Services, in dozens of languages and with Regional and Cultural Market Nuances at a global scale.

LUMIN&CE AI is looking for an extraordinary engineering leader to help build next-generation Generative AI capabilities for Apple's groundbreaking devices and platforms. We are a key part of the Apple ecosystem, supporting millions of users and billions of transactions. We operate in hundreds of countries and dozens of languages.

• Lead, mentor, and grow a small, agile team of machine learning engineers: hire great people, develop their careers, and build a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and trust.
• Spend about 60% of your time hands-on: design systems, write production-quality code, and build, fine-tune, and evaluate models using the latest Generative AI techniques.
• Set the technical vision and roadmap for the team's Text Generation capabilities, together with product, research, and cross-functional partners.
• Own delivery end to end in fast, agile iterations, from turning an ambiguous problem into a clear plan, through design and development, to successful deployment and operation of features, data, and models in production.
• Set the bar for engineering and ML quality, including design and code review, evaluation methodology, quality metrics, and launch readiness.
• Make the hard prioritization calls: balance exploration against shipping, and short-term needs against long-term platform investment.
• Partner with world-class engineers, researchers, and analysts in Singapore, the US, and other regions to ensure the quality and performance of features and models.
• Have a major impact on how Generative AI enriches Apple Media Content on more than a billion active Apple devices worldwide, on all devices (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, visionOS, Siri/HomePod)
• Serve customers in dozens of languages (from Arabic to Russian and everything in between)

8+ years of relevant industry experience in software engineering and/or machine learning, including 2+ years directly managing engineers

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline

A track record of leading teams that shipped ML-powered systems to production at scale

Strong hands-on skills: production-quality programming in one or more of Python, Go, Scala, or Java, big data pipelines, and the full ML lifecycle (data, training, evaluation, deployment). You will build alongside the team, not only review its work

Experience hiring, building, and developing high-performing teams, including giving clear feedback and managing performance

The ability to turn ambiguous business needs into clear technical roadmaps and to execute against them in fast, agile iterations

Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Hands-on experience with Large Language Models and Generative AI, e.g., fine-tuning, RAG, quality evaluation and auto-grading, and agentic systems

Deep understanding of Global Markets, Language Nuances, Media Content, and Regional Culture.

Experience managing teams or partnering across geographies and time zones

Master's or PhD preferred
