Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience programming in C++.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.

GDC networking consists of multiple layers including physical network, overlay network and Kubernetes network. You will be part of a team designing and developing software systems to automate the design, deployment and operation of GDC physical and overlay networks.
GDC delivers solutions to address a huge opportunity of Google Cloud on a subset of very large customers (Finance, Government, Telco, EU regulated workloads etc.).

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
- Architect and design resilient, high-performance distributed systems and backend services that power large-scale Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and container networking platforms.
- Develop and optimize production-grade code (primarily in Go/C++) for Kubernetes components, custom controllers, and orchestration engines running across massive fleet environments.
- Build and evolve software-defined networking, network virtualization, and data center connectivity layers to ensure low-latency, scalable, and secure traffic orchestration.
- Drive system reliability and performance tuning across large-scale distributed deployments by instituting robust testing frameworks, telemetry, and fault-tolerant architectural patterns.
- Mentor engineers and lead technical strategy, while actively collaborating with cross-functional partners and engaging with the broader open-source/cloud-native ecosystem.
