The Physical Therapist is responsible to plan, interpret, and implement physical therapy treatment programs for patients.
General Duties:
- Evaluate patient’s current function and therapy potential. Complete a database including medical history and return-to-work requirements where necessary, seeking additional information from physicians and other professionals as needed.
- Formulate and implement treatment plan in accordance with physician referrals and evaluation results. Complete documentation of plan of treatment and daily progress.
- Provide appropriate treatment including but not limited to: therapeutic exercise and/or activities, modalities, manual techniques, adaptive equipment, splints, wound care, neuromuscular and sensory re-education, patient/family education, home programming and activities of daily living.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for each patient daily, monthly, and upon discharge.
- Re-assess and initiate therapy modifications in accordance with evaluation results, patient/employer needs, and/or insurance protocols.
- Develop and refine test tools and treatment methods to ultimately improve service to patients.
- Consult and communicate with physicians, occupational and safety health nurses, employers, family, insurance adjustors, claim agents, and other community professionals in regard to patient care plan.
- Supervise therapy technicians, therapist assistants, and therapy students in patient treatment activities; serve as Clinical Supervisor of PTA and students.
- Perform job site evaluations, recommendations, and modifications.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Requires ability to facilitate prescribed treatments, including full mobilization and resistance.
- Requires ability to implement treatment to patient and prepare reports.
- Requires ability to use and repair department equipment.
- Ability and skill to work cooperatively with all clinical and non-clinical staff to assure quality patient care.
- Must be able to converse comfortably with patients and paraprofessionals; knowledge of rehab and medical terminology;
- Ability to accurately track and record progress of patients.
Requirements:
- Candidate must have bachelor’s degree or higher in Physical Therapy, accredited program.
- Certification and current state license to practice Physical Therapy in Iowa and South Dakota; and possibly Nebraska.
